Where are those Krafty Kansans
WOWOWOWOWOW!!!! My words are just getting to be not enough, to describe all the glorious sites we are seeing. While in Florence, Saturday and Sunday, David and I went to the Uffizi, a museum that houses famous Boticelli and Da Vinci works, then on Sunday we went to the Duomo. A huge cathedral with a dome on the top. On the inside it features a painting called The Final Judgement, we will post pics, so far it has been Toms favorite thing he has seen. The others went on Saturday and were able to go up to the top of the dome and get a closer look. It depicts heavan and hell. While we have been touring the various sites, we have for the most part been too cheap and not too interested to pay for a tour guide, but it works out ok because we end up following the tour groups and "overhearing" what they are saying. Hehe.
So I overheard about the final judgement painting that a lot of the reason their are so many biblical paintings bc back in the day people couldnt read and that was the best way for people to learn.
After florence we headed to Roma. Have been here for two nights and we are on our second day, Tuesday.
Yesterday we all hit up Vatican City, went through all the museums, saw the Sistine chapel where the famous Michelangelo painting of God reaching out his finger to touch Adam. Really great to finally see it all in person. the scale and grandoise of it all is truly amazing.
Then after the Vatican Museum walks we headed to the San Pietro, or Saint Peters Basilica where all the popes are buried and the Pope holds mass. This is personally the most AMAZING building i have seen in my entire life. There are sculptures EVERYWHERE and we ended up walking all the way to the top of the dome, and saw a panoramic view of Rome. Very nice to see, again, my words cannot even begin to express the greatness of it all.
Today we will go to the colesseum and check out the old ruins and tonight we will go on a night tour of the city and check everything out, who knows, maybe even learn a thing or two.
Once I get a chance I will be posting more pics and also a summary of our entire trip favorites. This will include people we have met, funny quotes, favorite sites and various other things that we have been writing down during our nights around the bottles of wine.
As I have said before we are camping here in rome, but let me tell you it is FAR from roughing it. We are at a campsite but were able to book what they call a bungalo, which is basically just a really really really nice trailor home. There are two rooms, two bathrooms with showers, AC! and a full kitchen. There is also a pool at the campgrounds, a bar with bands and a "disco club" at night, and a full restaurant, which we havent had to hit up yet.
Because while here we have been able to take advantage of the grocery store across the street. last night I made everyone Italian sausage and peppers and tonight we will feast on Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli with a pesto cream sauce, chicken and mushrooms. I hope it all turns out okay.
Thats all for now we have to go see the sites!
Keep the messages comming we love reading them from everyone
Take care
Love
The crew
