Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We had to get up early to catch a 7:15 van to the train station. There were 12 of us going from Paris to Lyon. The train station, like in the rest of Europe, was very busy. We had to wait about an hour for our train. Viking had purchased 1st class tickets on the upper level and all of us sat together. The train ride was wonderful. It was one of their high speed TVG trains which made the 300 mile trip in 2 hours. It was smooth and quiet and the rolling hills and vineyards made for great viewing. We got to the Viking Heimdal around noon. After grabbing some lunch we went for a short walking tour of Lyon, which is France's 3rd largest city. The boat docks downtown so it was only about a 10 minute walk to the city center. Lyon is at the confluence of the Saone and Rhone Rivers. There has been heavy rain in this area which has raised the water level on the Saone too high for us make the stop scheduled for tomorrow at Macon. The ship will stay in Lyon for an extra day but we will will still be able to do all our scheduled activities. It has some advantages since it allows us to go out at night in Lyon. The rest of the cruise will be on the Rhone where there are no problems.
