After leaving Queenstown we drove through the Kawarua gorge stopping at a waterfall. Driving a little further past Cromwell we decided to stop for lunch next to a lake. We had soup and played cards for a while before we could be bothered to drive the rest of the way to Wanaka. When driving around in our campervan we listen to Tourism Radio which basically points out good places to stay, go and dine. We heard of a good caravan park with free wifi and spa in Wanaka, so we headed there. That night we went in the hot tubs and sauna for a while.. might as well it was free.
The following morning we went to a place called puzzling world and puzzling it was. Firstly we did the Labyrinth maze. When entering the maze we read signs saying it took people around 30 minutes to 1hr to complete. It had four corners of Blue, Red, Green and Yellow and gave you a sequence to find them in. The maze has 1.5km of confusing paths and most people walk 3 to 5 Km before finishing it. It got slightly competative between the both of us. Peter was the one who found each corner before Lucy but then Lucy beat him to the Finish. RESULT. It took us both around 50 minutes to complete and we can honestly say it was the best maze we have ever been in, so funny. After the maze we went into the Illusion rooms, some were very confusing and some not. We tried to take some good pictures but just couldn't get it right.
That afternoon we walked into town and around the lake until making our way back to the caravan park. That evening we decided to go out for a nice meal together courtesy of Stewart Brown and raise a glass to Kathleen on her 60th :-D. A lovely meal it was too.. Pork Belly in caramelised onion sauce.. Lamb rack in two traditional Kiwi sauces.. can't remember the names but all were delicious. We've also found out that Kiwi's love there Aioli sauce.. basically like garlic mayo.. we love it too. After the meal at 'The Landing' we headed to find a bit more of a lively place for a drink.. we didn't succeed. Everywhere were dead.
We left Wanaka the next day driving towards Haast but the weather was not good at all. Absolutley chucking it down. So we decided to pull into to a layby and stay there the whole day and night.. for FREE!!! The following morning all the mountains had snow on top of them.. the Winter is here. (P.s .. We hope your all enjoying the sunshine back home)
