We left Tonys guesthouse on the 13th february, and walked to a local bus stop where Tony said we'd be able to catch a bus to the main bus terminal at Melaka central. We sat in the the boiling hot sunshine and waited, and waited, oh and waited!! Then finally a rickety old bus came round the corner. We jumped aboard with our big backpacks, nowhere to sit, and lots of curious faces looking at us. Finally a few people got off at the next stop so we were able to be seated. The ride only cost us 1RM each (20p). Luckily we weren't on this bus all the way to Kuala Lumpur! Lucy had abit of an admirer on the bus, a little local lady was sat opposite her and couldn't take her eyes off her, and also asked her a couple of questions. Soon as we reached Melaka central we found a ticket stand for buses to KL, luckily one was leaving in 10minutes, result. This bus was far nicer than the rickety old bus we'd previously been on. The journey took around 2hours but the bus didn't take us into KL, it dropped us off at TSB transport terminal on the outskirts of the city. So from here we had to figure out the rail network around the city. After using the KTM kommuter and the KL rapid lines we finally reached.... next station 'Pasar Seni' . We got very familar with this station as it was right next to our guesthouse we were staying in. We were located on the edge of Chinatown.
Once we had checked in the guesthouse we had a wander around chinatown looking for somewhere to eat, nowhere really stood out apart from KFC.. i know it sounds bad but again we hadn't eaten all day. Once ordering the KFC the drinks machine wasn't working and the lady behind the counter asked if we wanted fresh orange instead.. so both of us agreed. Then she changed the price of our meals and added another 4RM on top.. we didnt even what fresh orange, it wasn't our fault the drinks machine wasn't working. This made us cancel our order and walk out. That night Lucy wasn't feeling to well, she had started with a cold the day before, so we stayed in, with Peter popping out to bring back some tea and a little surprise Anniversary present. Haha!! Our room wasn't the best room to be getting an early night as we had a lot of buses and traffic outside making loads of noise.
The next day we went for a little adventure around KL. This consisted of us freshening up our wardrobes, or should we say backpacks! We forgot all about our budget and went on a little spending spree at the shopping centre beneath the Petronas twin towers. Before lunch we had a walk around the park next to the towers. It was a very nice park with great views up at the towers. For lunch we had a nando's... yes NANDO'S! It was slightly different to the nando's we get back home, they come to your table to get your order, then keep coming round filling up your bottomless drinks and the menu was abit different. Our meals were ok, but nothing like the standard of food we get from the nando's in england. After abit more shopping we went to a different part of the city, Bukit Bintang was our next destination... we visited another shopping centre!! Not with the intent to do more shopping though, we just wanted to see the indoor theme park they have there. Lucy also treated Peter to a little anniversary present.... a love shaped doughnut covered in pink icing and lots of strawberry jam in the middle, DELICIOUS! We went for a lovely jug of Tiger beer at a bar in the area. We then decided that we would go back to the guesthouse to drop our shopping off and freshen up before heading back out for an evening meal.
We jumped on the KL rapid and went a few stops away to a place called Bangsar.... we had heard it was a place with nice bars and restaurants where mostly locals go and not to many tourists. We had a 10minute walk from the station up a dual carriageway which was a little wierd, but was worth it in the end. Bangsar was a lovely area. We ate a nice little bistro, where we had to wait for a table as it was full. The meals we had were excellent, Lucy having green risotto with thai style chicken and Peter enjoying the traditional lasagne, we also shared some garlic bread which was served with some lush garlic mayo .... Back on the KL rapid later as we didn't want to miss the last train back, next station 'Pasar Seni'.
The next day we had along day ahead.......
We checked out and left our big bags at the guesthouse, and went to a shopping centre for a walk around.... and we did just a couple more purchases!! haha. We went to the central market and ate in the food court there. Later we returned to the guesthouse, and chilled on the sofa's, watching tv and doing stuff on the computer. Time dragged and dragged as we waited around. Around 8pm we left the guesthouse and jumped on the KL rapid to KL Central, where we spent a couple more hours and had some tea. The next stage in our journey was to catch a bus around 10pm to the airport. This journey was around an hour. We were flying out of the LCC airport (low cost carrier) and our flight wasn't until 6.45 am.....
So we had a few hours wait ahead of us.... McDonalds it was then. Abit more food and free wi-fi would pass some time we thought! 30 minutes later they were shutting up and not letting anyone else in. We thought it was a 24hour restaurant. Not that night though as they were having a cleaning operation from 12-5.30am.... SMART! So we went inside the airport terminal and got comfy on the floor and lent up against our bags. There were lots of people doing this and hanging around till the morning flights, so don't worry we weren't the only ones. Then a man came round and asked everyone to leave the airport termainal.... we were thinking 'just our luck'.... it was shutting for cleaning 12-3am! Everyone rushed outside trying to get the seats available or a spot on the floor against a wall. We eventually settled down against a wall with our beach mat spread out. We felt homeless! Luckily it wasn't cold, we definitely would not of been able to do this at Manchester airport!!!
