Thursday began with an early rise for the train from Southampton to Gatwick. Non eventful journey, but plenty of excitement about the flight etc. As expected with BA, checkin was a breeze without any stress. We'd already checked in online and chosen our seats. As it turned out, the flight was half full. We essentially could've sat where we wanted anyway. Plenty of choice of films and TV from the on-demand service. Generally, the flight was awesome.
Landed in Tampa ahead of schedule. The usual United States border control 'checking every last detail' scenario ensues. Laura gets asked for extra ID - apparently the guy says she must've lost weight since her passport photo was taken. Laura looks unsure whether to take this as a compliment or not. In fairness to the guy, the photo does look a bit dodgy and without much familiarity to her current look. She currently looks amazing of course.
Did I mention we're initially staying with Laura's folks? Anyway, Maurice, Laura's step dad has arranged car rental. After some lively banter with Tom, the car rental representative, we've begun the hour long drive to Anna Maria Island on Florida's West Coast. I of course, am sat there in the front seat looking at every passing car, truck, billboard, and traffic light. I love it.
We arrive at the apartment. It's nice. I take a few photos - perhaps I'll leave a review on TripAdvisor. We get some food in, drink some wine and then crash after what has been a 20-something hour day.
