Four Park Hike
Yesterday I led a rescheduled hike for TTA. My original plan was to have the hike on Super Bowl Sunday before the game (because I'm such a big Football fan! Haha!). My plan was to do an urban hike connecting four parks downtown: Bicentenniel State Park, Victory Park at the Capitol, Public Square Park, and Muse Park. Since we had four parks, I was going to divide the hikers into teams and have challenges at each park representing the four quarters of the game. I was going to wear a ref shirt and everything. We were going to have a passing challenge, a touchdown dance/cheer competition, trivia, and snacks. My sisters baby came early so I had to reschedule to another day and now it doesn't make sense to do the football things.
I have been able to explore the area on several of my races, but many have never walked around that area. We started out at Bicentennial Park in the area with the chimes. As we walked through the park we also explored the area with the stone globe you can rotate (there was no water, so it wasn't working) and the area with the giant map of Tennessee. From there we climbed up the big hill to the Capitol and Victory Park, stopping at President Polk's grave. We then went down the street to Public Square Park. They have a lot of events and concerts there. We climbed up into the towers to get a good view of the city. Next we headed over to the river and walked up the greenway and Music City Bikeway to Muse Park. We passed a few construction and housing areas along the way. In Muse Park there's a sulpher spring that people used to think brought healing. As I'm allergic to sulpher, we didn't try the water. The last stretch was from Muse Park back to Bicentenniel Park through Germantown. There are lots of neat restaurants and shops in that area including the best place in town for cupcakes: The Cupcake Collection. They were closed sadly. It was a great day to get out and look around although a bit cold and windy at the start. We finished our hike in time to hear the chimes play!
