Moth Trap in the NZ garden
Latest Moths
End of January 2017
(Please note that any excursion adverts on this blog are placed by the web site owners and not us)
The trap was put out with the Prolite 25W Black Light bulb and with the Sylvania Mini-Linx Blacklight 20W and stayed on all night.
Night temps were around 14 to 19 oC.
Not a great deal to report this week, but there is still a steady trickle of new species. The list has now got to 95 with a quite few that I have not been able to identify. Over the next few weeks we shall be travelling around and so we may have some new locations to try the trap out in.
Watch out for the Monarch Butterfly life story blog in a few days' time.
Talking of Butterflies there is a great deal of dispute here regarding the different species of Small Copper butterflies. So far we have only seen one but there are now three different IDs for it. All saying they are the correct one so I will have to wait and hope that there is some resolution shortly. There are several types around but exactly which is which, is the problem.
NZ really does need to get its act together with its ID situation.

Mike Williams Keep up the good work. Enjoying seeing your photos and hearing about all your catches. Pretty miserable winter here in the UK
Steve Jacques Cheers Mke, great to read about all the good work you and the others are doing over there.
