Carolyn, Maya and Evan introduced me to French toast with maple syrup. Yum!
After a tour around the south Minneapolis residential areas, small shopping strips and the lakes in the rain, we stopped for coffee at Caribou, a cool coffee chain where you can get coffees such as campfire mocha, gingerbread latte and peppermint mocha. We sampled corn bread at the local bakery which was great. Carolyn bought a loaf, but we never actually got to eat it, as their two dogs (great Pyreneans) knicked the loaf while we were out! Hilarious. What can you do?!
Our afternoon of culture was interesting, and one might say an example of the extremes. We visited the Art Institute and walked through the newly refurbished African displays and Japanese area, before going to see a play at the Children's Theatre next door. We saw the pre-Broadway Show the Wong Kids, the secrets of the Space Chupercabra! It was funny in places and the actors did a good job. It was space-agey, with a lot of special effects. There was an underlying social message throughout the play about diversity and stereotyping. We all agreed the jury was out, about whether it was good or not.
We then headed to their favourite pizza restaurant, Lola's. It was good we were early, as the queues later were unbelievable. They have a massive brass-fire pizza oven in the centre of the restaurant. We had salad appetisers to share - roast cauliflower, beets, Caesar, followed by seasonal special, squash pizza, Korean barbecue pizza and the more mainstream margharita! Really interesting taste combos.

Mo Hi Chris, yes the themes of my trip seem to be food, coffee, cocktails and my boots! Some areas very cold, but I managed to miss the bad weather in Chicago. Just arrived Portland, Oregon.
