I apologize for how long it has been since I bloggled last! We are safe in London! I haven't blogged since Florence, so I will pick up from there!
We left Florence and took a train to Rome. After checking in to our hostel and grabbing a quick slice of pizza (which had no cheese on it!) we went on a walking tour suggessted by Kelly, Corey, Joni, and Derek. It was about 92 degrees out! But, it was well worth it! We went on a tour of ancient Rome with about 10 other American College students. The guide was about 23 and originally from Idaho but had been living in Rome for about 5 years. He was funny and really smart! We learned more in those four hours than I ever remember learing in World History! We saw the Panthenon (amazing), the Colosseum (amazing), Forum (who am I kidding everything was amazing!), and a lot of other ancient things...we learned all about the history of Rome from the formation and all the different rulers (Julius Ceaser, Augustus, Mussilini, etc). We wish we would have known walking tours would have been that awesome because we would have done it in every city...Oh well I guess we will just have to go back! That has been a general theme of this trip...'I guess we will just have to come back' ha ha!
The next morning we were going to go to the Vatican but heard people were waiting in line for up to three hours! We had to leave for the airport at 1 so we decided to skip it...I imagine the Vatican will still be there next time we come! Instead we found (i say found because we were so lost and literally stumbled upon it, thinking we were 10 blocks away from it) Trevi Fountain...It was beautiful...but TOO crowded with tourists. Since we only had about an hour and a half I suggested we hit up the air conditioned shops and get some pasta! So we did.....we shopped...and shopped...and enjoyed the air conditioning! I think this is the first time EVER Ryan has enjoyed shopping with me!
Rome was amazing and we learned so much which was a bonus...but we were ready to leave. Rome was a good city to end on b/c you can get sick of it FAST!
The roads are all jumbled and not set up in any organized matter, for one block it is called something and changes names about every other block, the streets are overcrowded with scooters who don't find it necessary to watch out for pedestrians, cars who drive oh so fast and park where ever they please, and buses...sooo many buses. We had to take a bus to the airport (it was about a 40 minute ride out of town) and I am suprised we kept our pasta down...it isn't easy driving on cobblestones so it was SO bumpy...and the bus drivers are a big fan of the breaks...they don't like to ease into them...rather they push down on them every 30 seconds as hard as possible.....
The airport wasnt' much better....Lines seem to be a suggestion in the Rome airport...we would be standing in a line and about 15 people would just randomly cut...you can say something to someone but they will just yell at you in Italian so it is easier to make your way to the back of the line....the airlines also find it acceptable to leave an hour later then scheduled without informing ANYONE....so that was cool.... thank goodness we had no connecting flights and no where to be! We met a guy from California that had been studying in Liverpool for a year and he had worse luck than us.. he had 1 euro, he had missed 2 flights, and since our plane was late departing he was missing his train to liverpool!
I feel like I am complaining/venting too much...Rome was amazing, don't get me wrong! The thought of being in one place for more than 36 hours and not living out of our backpacks and rewearing sweaty clothes is so nice!
We are in Lodnon waiting for our bus to Oxford...It is flooding everywhere here! We wish it would fidn its way to all of you!
For the time being we are done travelling...but in a few weeks we will make our way to Dublin.
Miss you all! Can't wait to here from you (we are getting homesick!)
