When I think of San Diego two things come to mind 1. The heap of recommendations from people and 2. Anchorman. Luckily Blinky shares my love for the latter otherwise she would have been subject to listening to me quote the film for the duration of our stay.
On our arrival we are greeted with sunshine. We jump aboard the number 923 bus towards downtown in search of our new (and much less luxurious than the previous) home.
So far the San Diegans are all very friendly. Especially the old man on the bus who imparts some wise words to Blinky and I. 'Wear that smile wherever you go, it's the best make up a girl can wear' (this was later contradicted by a crazy dude from New York staying at our hostel who told us that was rubbish and we should slap that make up on!)
Hostel found, checked in and map in hand we go for a drink to work out where to head to. Finding a place to drink was fairly easy due to the fact we were staying in the Gaslamp Quarter, the nightlife and entertainment part of town. We decide to head up to Balboa Park and take a walk round what is considered San Diego's equivalent of Central Park. Enjoying our surroundings and the weather we decide to continue down to the water front. The feel was pretty chilled so we grabbed ourselves a coffee and continued making our way back to our hostel. We whiled away a day in our own little bubble.
Seeing as the weather was so nice we decided it would have been rude not to explore the beaches of San Diego over the next two days. Making Ocean Beach our first visit (with a stop off in Old Town on the way, a very Mexican feeling town) and La Jolla the second beach of choice. Both beaches were lovely and we both relaxed completely in the Sun on the beach and wandered round the beach side towns.
It was a fairly quick visit to San Diego and I think Blinky and I were a little unprepared on our arrival but I think we saw the bits of San Diego that suited us!
