Arrival at LA bus terminal was an interesting start to our 1 day pit stop before we headed to Hawaii!!!
Our first evening was taken up with a stroll along Santa Monica beach and then dinner watching the sun set. We were planning a busy day the next day exploring the Venice Beach area.
Up early to start our walk along the beach to see what it was all about. We stopped off to watch some beach volleyball on our way. One of the nicest things about travelling is you have no real agenda to your day.
We encountered some interesting characters along our board walk. Old dudes on rollerblades playing the guitar, a man singing ad hoc about his mumma and some crazy gymnasts to name but a few.
Venice beach definitely has more of your backpacker feel to it. A really vibrant place. Having spent half the day taking it all in we decide to chill out on the beach for an hour or so (turns into 4 hours!). We regroup and head to the Venice Canal area, having been recommended to visit by a lady at our hostel. It was a contrast compared to the hustle and bustle of Venice Beachfront. A serene network of canals lined with beautiful and unique houses. Heading back to the beach to begin our walk home and preparations for our departure we get distracted by a beautiful sunset and a skate park. Watching them with envy as Blinky and I have been discussing our want to learn how to skate board. We cut our losses and make a move towards Santa Monica beach reaching the hostel in time for dinner and bed ready for our early morning flight to Honolulu. *actually too exciting*
