So its official I blog more when Im alone, when I am with people I just cant be bothered blogging but since im alone and well it gets dark by 5pm that's a lot of hours to occupy before bed time. Mind you (don't tell mum or she will Panic) I do walk at night, but im not stupid or anything, I make sure its where there are a lot of people and crowds like at the Christmas markets and I watch my stuff like a Hawk (so mum feel reassured) but I just don't want to lock myself in the hostel just because the suns gone down… how boring!
Anyway! So Thursday! I got up had breakfast, as you do… I walked to the bus stop stumbling on the Orangerie (rock gate) on the way, I took some photos then got on the bus to get off and change busses. Basically spent the next coulpe hours riding the bus, I chose a route and rode it to the end deciding on the way witch stops where worth getting off and freezing your butt of for and it got my muddled sense of direction in order. I rode the bus back, had lunch then got back on where I got off at (something) Charlotten had a look around and walked through the park to this old building that turned out to be Neues Palace. At this point I realized how small Potsdam actually is and how easy it was to get from one attraction to another. I got myself a ticket and did a guided tour on the way glancing at some post cards of the area, then I realized how much the snow hides everything!! The pictures showed beautiful green grassy areas, gardens and fountains witch are all impossible to see when its this cold. Well at least I can say I have been there… Did the tour or the Neues Palace and it took about 20 mins, the guide spoke German so I listened to the Audio Guide instead. When I got out it was snowing again and pretty heavily so I made my way to the bus stop as quickly as possible. By this time it was getting somewhat later in the afternoon and since I wasn't too sure how to get back I decided to head back to the hostel giving my self time to get lost if it happened. As I walked back to the hostel through the park and a totally random spot I came across this guy standing by a light pole, dressed in red like captain cook would wear and playing a flute, I swear if he had goat legs and hooves I would have been standing in the first Narnia Movie. For some reason I was highly amused and am still laughing to my self about it. I do love the snow though, its so enchanting, well for about 2 hours that is. For the first 2 hours from leaving the hostel you cant get used to how cold it is and no matter how much you try you cant stay warm and your toeS and finger tips sting even when your wearing gloves and 3 pairs of socks, after that you finally get used to it and try to keep moving, this is the 2 hour period where you enjoy the snow and in awe of how majestic it is and all I want to do is roll around and play in it then of course I think of the consequences witch are a) looking like an idiot [not that I care too much] and b) getting all your clothes covered in snow witch will melt as soon as you get somewhere warm leaving you wet and soggy. Then after those 2 hours you get over it, you get sick of wet toes and cold seeping through your boots walking on a slurry of ice and mud and your feet randomly slipping out from underneath you causing you to stumble or fall on your arse.
That bring me to today (Friday)….. On my stroll the day before I reaslised how close the Hostel was prom Sans Sousci so that was my first stop after a brisk walk to get warm, I get there and find out they don't open till 10am (Reduced hours during winter ) so I wait 15 minutes and get a ticket before having to wait another 20 minutes before the tour started. So I do the tour (with audio guide) of the Sans Souci and looked around the grounds, witch mind you are massive! Of course because of the snow little of the garden could be seen and the fountain witch was primarily frozen over only dribbled and ducks swam in the small area that wasn't frozen or sitting on the ice. If you ask me they must be crazy!!! I get on the bus and head to Brandenburger Tor and a couple other Gates and old stuff, nothing exciting. I then catch the 603 to Schloss Cecilienhof another old castle, much different from the other building I had seen that looked very general European this one looked more German so to say… once again did a tour of that one and walk around the gardens where the lake was nearly entirely frozen over. I hear the sound of kids playing and head toward then to find myself jealously watch them slide down the hill on sleds and rolling around in the snow, I pondered joining in but once again we came back to the consequences and I didn't want to risk getting a cold. So I walk off all disappointed and sad and catch a bus back to the hostel. So I have done all the main sights and don't have the urge to see any more, its nice here and well worth it (more so in the summer) but I am glad to be leaving tomorrow especially to be meeting my man in Berlin, Oh I cant wait!
