Day 7:
Leaving Hue, our bus journey takes us south through rural countryside before ascending the dramatic Hai Van Pass, where we stop off at the peak for a short break. We arrive at the newly declared World Heritage Site of Hoi An (about 4 hours from Hue) and take an orientation tour of the ancient town with Tuan.
Notes: Once a thriving river port, the town's architecture has been mostly preserved and restored. This small town is a favourite with travellers and wandering the streets and narrow alleyways brings hours of pleasure and discovery. Hoi An's citizens today trade in ceramics, wood-ware, painting and tailoring so there is something here for everyone.
In the evening we all go off and do our own thing, but we all end up in the Tam Tam bar for a couple of games of pool and many cocktails.
Day 8: Today we get up for our 9am bike ride through the countryside (all with a bit of a headache). We pop down to the beach for a quick swim in the sea and dry off as we make our way back to the town. The rest of the group drop off their bikes but Vikki invited me to go with them for a ride round the town. I sample my 1st beer thanks to Alistair who forgot i dont drink. however it was not the worst experience because it was fresh beer and seemed to be quite weak. fwew! we grabbed some lunch and they headed off to pick up their tailor made clothes.
I headed off on my own for another bike ride and re ran our steps back through the villages and countryside, stopping off and watching the farmers cultivating the land for the next crop.
At 4pm, Tuan takes Christina, Alex, Erin, Ralph, Vikki and I to the local market where we meet our cooking class teacher. she walks us round giving us very useful advice on fruit and vegetable picking. We buy some ingredients and head back to the kitchen. I learn how to make my Spring rolls so i can eat them at home. i am so excited. the class was lots of fun and afterwards i decide to head back to the hotel for an early night.
