Day 14:
Today we left Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, the journey should have been undertaken by plane but Intrepid decided to change this and so we got on our private bus and the jounrey ended up taking 6-7 hours instead of about 3, so by the time we got to Siem Reap it was 2pm and we were all knackered. It was so hot and so relief came when i found out we had a swimming pool. We all grabbed lunch at the nearby restaurant and then John, Fiona and I headed off to visit a couple fo the temples for sunset. The heat was at times unbearable and made worse by the fact that we had to cover up out of respect. Later on in the evening we all headed offon tuk tuks to the restaurant fordinner. The food was lovely, i tried a nice pumpkin piece disk with cheese, mushrooms, onion, chicken and so on. Very yummy, then i tried my hand again at a bit of bargaining for a nice pair of long trousers for tomorrows temple visit, but the guy would not budge off 6$ so i left it for another day!!
Day 15:
Today we got a bit of a lie in, we didnt have to get up till 7:30am. We headed off to Angkor City for a bit of temple-hopping from sunrise to sunset with our local guide.
Notes: These temples were built between the 9th and 13th centuries when the Khmer Empire was the pre-eminent influence in South-East Asia. The temples are believed to represent the cosmic world, set in perfect balance, symmetry and composition. The intricately carved bas-reliefs and architectural design are mind-blowing and there are spectacular photographic opportunities at all times of day. The ruins are scattered over an area of some 160 sq km, but the main cluster of temples is close to Siem Reap so today and tomorrow we will fully appreciate the great archaeological sites of Angkor Wat, the Bayon and the jungle-covered Ta Prohm.
