Day 12:
From Ho Chi Minh City we travelled by public bus through rural Vietnam and Cambodia (which took us about 7 hours). The journey was very long and luckily we didnt encounter any problems at the boarder.
We arived at our hotel in Phnom Penh. This time round I was to share a room with one of the new members of our group, Sarah from Leeds. Our room was on the 5th floor and there was no lift, so this was a bit tough with the massive rucksacks the new girls had. We grabbed some lunch and then the cyclos arrived to take us on a quick tour of the city. We saw an Elephant along the way, a street market selling insects and some memorials. We stopped off for a stroll along the river's famous Sisowath Quay and Adam our tour leader bought a goody bag of delights. Some of which Alex and Erin tried out; Tarantula's leg, crickets and cockroach. Yukk!!!!
Day 13:
Today we were to confront Cambodia's tragic past, paying a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school which served as a Khmer Rouge torture centre. This was a little too much to take in, the Pol Pot regime was aweful and so many people died, horrid to think that this only took place about 30 years ago. After the museum we drove out to Choueng Ek Memorial, a monument made up of some 8,000 human skulls, which marked the site of the infamous Killing Fields.Blimy today turned into a bit of an emotional day. So to make us all feel a little better our mini bus dropped us off at the local Russian Market where we wandered around for 45 minutes. Alex was again buying some more scarfs, so i helped her out a bit to get the price down. they are really not too happy to bargain here unlike Vietnam.
