Omg I cannot deal with these blogs. Okay paris. Here we go. We arrived from Strasbourg and of course, being us, our arrival wasn't a walk in the park. It was in fact a walk to the wrong hostel, much to our dismay as our giant packs were breaking our backs more and more each metre we trekked, but we finally arrived at the correct saint christophers inn, and it looked really cool. We stayed in a 12 bed dorm which was fine because each bed was equipped with its own privacy curtain so we all slept really well on that first night. The next morning we woke up ready for our Eiffel Tower tour! (I don't actually know if it was on the first day but I'm
Going to pretend it was for memory's sake). We jumped off the train, baguettes in hand expecting the Eiffel Tower to simultaneously emerge and we were baffled when it didn't. We must've looked so stupid doing 360 turns trying to suss out where the tower was, but finally we managed to locate it within just a few steps ahead of where we were standing. It was incredible to see again and definitely lives up to its expectations (even my second time seeing it was just as amazing). We ate baguettes and cakes in the park with our spectacular view before walking over to the tour meeting point. Our guide was a very flamboyant man who really knew his stuff about the tower which was great. Our skip the queue tickets allowed us straight in, we felt like gods staring back at the unfortunate people waiting in line for their trip
Up the tower. We arrived at the second level and saw the breathtaking sky high views of Paris. The guide pointed out all of the sights, Notre dam, the louvre, sacre coeur etc. it was great. After viewing the city from each angle we embarked to the summit of the tower which, of course was extremely high and pretty full on. We saw the city again from all angles and then proceeded back down. I just realized this was actually the second day of our trip and on the first day we visited the champs élysées and Notre dam, oops. This is the problem with not writing these events in my blog as they chronologically happen. But for now I'm going to continue as if Eiffel Tower was the first day and champs élysées was the second. So after seeing the brilliance of the tower we decided to spoil ourselves a little with a beautiful authentic French dinner, complete with a plate of snails which were actually really nice. We all got crepes afterwards and we chockas! The next day we went to the champs élysées for lunch, more expensive than we would've liked it to be, but that's paris for ya. I think the ice tea on the menu was like 9 euro. Anyway, we got lunch which was pretty good (I had pasta), and after we went and got a closer glimpse at the arc de triumph and took some touristy snaps. We then decided we would walk to Notre dam to work off some of our carb filled lunch, so we embarked on what we thought we be a breezy 30 minute stroll but turned out to be at lease 1.5 hrs. We did stop along the way to place locks on the lock bridge across the seine which was quite romantic/beautiful. We finally arrived at Notre dam, and we decided not to go in because there was a huge line and we really couldn't be bothered, so we had a better plan, ice cream. So look, when I went to paris for the first time our group all got these amazing ice creams right near Notre dam, so I decided to try and find the same place. When we arrived it looked really unfamiliar so I'm pretty sure it wasn't it, but we all ordered anyway and got literally microscopic scoop sizes. We were very disappointed. Especially Alice. We ate in that night, tuna and rice, the best. The next day we embarked to Versailles, trying to leave as early as possible in order to avoid the lines, but being us there were some problems with public transport ie: the train being cancelled then changed then blah blah, we arrived 2 hrs later. We were greeted by a huge huge huge line. We waited for roughly 45 mins and finally got in. It was defs worth it though, we stayed there until 7pm. We walked the grounds for hours, transfixed by the beautiful medieval styled houses, the beautiful lakes and gardens, and the coy fish in the pond, which we watched for at least an hour. We were exhausted on the way home and gave up any hope of heading out like we were supposed to and ended up feasting on popcorn and then crashing. On Saturday we had nothing planned for the morning but we had our louvre tour booked for the arvo, so we headed off there. The louvre was great and the tour was really informative. I really enjoyed it. After the louvre we went to the hostel to have dinner, and then went out to the Eiffel Tower to see it at night. We got crepes and watched the light show. It was captivatingly beautiful. On the way home though, buzzing from the beauty of the tower our night was rudely ruined by some stupid ticket inspectors who fined us 60 euro each for fare evading. Lol. We had breakfast at the hostel the next morning before our bus, which was s***. We all piled cream cheese on our baguettes which we later discovered was actually yoghurt, we wondered why it tasted funny. Anyway, we got the bus to Belgium that day, which we almost missed. The bus was cramped and boring as. Belgium in the next post, I'm almost catching up! Xoxo Molly
