It's been a while since I've blogged, lots of stuff has happened including my phone breaking! Hence the no blogging. Anyway, I think I had finished Valencia, so next was Madrid. When we arrived in Madrid, we were stoked to find that we had booked a really nice hotel! We had our own room, bathroom and television! We were in awe. We tuned into some Spanish tv, which was pretty good. I love watching tv in other languages. After an amazing sleep in our real non bunkbeds we headed off to the hammams as a birthday present for Alice. I don't think I've ever been so relaxed in my life, the hammams were beautiful. They consist of separate pools of water, all at difference temperatures, used in a specific order to prepare your body for a massage. I loved the warm pool I felt like it put my body at a perfect temperature it was amazing. After the hammams we headed out for an extravagant dinner of modern Spanish tapas which was great. It was really different and we even ate a mousse burrito, legit a mousse that tasted like burritos. After dinner we went for churros, I was chockas. The next day we decided we should probably do something worth while whilst in Madrid so we went to view the fallen angel statue at a park. We took a picnic. The fallen angel was smaller than I would've imagined, but was still really pretty. We had to leave Madrid the next morning at 8am which was a drag, I hate early morning bus rides so much now. Kind of a relief that we won't be taking the bus until after Greece. We want to Pamplona next, and to be honest we really did nothin there, well there was nothing to do there. The hostel was amazing though, it had a really relaxed and homey feel to it which was a good change. We watched American beauty an went for walks. That's all. Lol. After Pamplona came San Sebastián! My favorite place so far. Before we arrived in San seb, we had read horrible reviews of the hostel we were staying in, so we were pretty freaked out, and yes it did live up to the dirty image painted by most of the reviews but the vibe and the people at the hostel really made us forget about the no hot water and swarms of flies in our bedroom. On our first night we went on a pub crawl. We also met our room mates. We were staying in a 12 bed dorm. The first friends we made were 2 guys called Matao and Bruno, Matao was from Italy, Bruno from brazil. They were a bit older than us, but really nice and easy to get along with. We went on a pub crawl with them that night which was great because we met a lot more people. Nick and Matt were 2 of them, from Sydney and they were hilarious, like younger versions of Hamish and Andy. We got pretty wasted that night (soz mum and dad) but it was such a good night. We went to 2 bars and a club which were all disappointedly empty, with people from the hostel pretty taking up all the room in the bars and clubs. But yeah it was fun, I don't think we got in until like 5 or 6am. The next day we hit the beach. On the way to the beach we realized we were starving so we went to a cafe that sold pintos and that's how we discovered our ever lasting love for pintos. Seriously they're incred. They're like little rolls and quiches with all different toppings like fish, hams, salami, salads and cheese. So good/best hangover food. The beach was awesome aswell. Pretty crowded but the water was so refreshing. That night we went with people from the hostel (Matao, Bruno, Matt, nick and some others) to the pier. We refused to drink, still recovering from the night before so just enjoyed the pretty views before sneaking off home to watch forgetting Sarah Marshall which we were heavily criticized for the next day. We decided the next day that we would celebrate Alice's birthday that night because the hostel was having a trip to the cider house plus a pub crawl after. So after the beach and a bit of a look around San seb we headed to the cider house which was up in the hills about a 15 minute drive from the city centre. The view was beautiful. The cider house was a restaurant which in the back rooms housed absolutely massive crates of cider. We were allowed to drink as much cider we liked, but each time only filling the class up to 2 fingers width. Some respect thing, but probably a good thing too otherwise I would've died of alcohol poisoning. Seriously it was stronger than you'd expect. The taps shoot out the cider so you have to stand about 1 meter away from the crate and catch the cider in your glass. The dinner was 5 course and shared amongst the table. We shared with some other girls from Melbourne who were really nice. First course was sausage, second cod, third was cod omelette, forth a big juicy steak (which was absolutely raw when we got it and we asked for it to be cooked some more and then it was extraordinary) and lastly we had cheese. As the night went on, the more we filled our glasses, the merrier we became. It was great. Bek broke a glass, we had photos with a baguette down my top which Bek and Alice later stole and ate in the cab. Oh I forgot to mention the freak who came along to the cider house. She was a 28 year old who for some reason thought she was younger and god, she was so annoying. Hitting on legit every guy, including poor innocent jack, our 18 year old friend from Ireland. He later gave into her and had to pay the ultimate price that night and locking her out of his room. We went to the same places on the pub crawl later which was a bit annoying so we decided to bail early and hang with Matao. He was seriously the most bizarre guy. Always high. But so funny. He tried his hardest at English and his random comments every now and then were so funny. We went to bed exhausted and empty pursed that night. We woke up the next day and did the usual, got pintos and went to the beach to recover. The night was so hard to sleep, it was so hot and stuffy in the room. Stupid hostel had no aircon or fans. The next day was Alice's birthday! Me and Bek had some special things planned! In the morning i gave her her little gift, an earring and we bought her a cake and picnic. We kayaked out to an island near San Sebastián with all the food which probably wasn't the best idea as Bek was caught on a huge wave and her kayak went into the rocks, the food flying out into the ocean. The rolls were okay, at least we didn't have to add salt. The Island was beautiful, the water was so clear and fresh around it. Kayaking home me and Alice both got picked up by a wave right near shore which threw us onto the sand and my shoes fell into the water and the kayak began to drift away, but of course another wave caught it and thrust it into my leg. It hurt! We then swam out to the ocean water slide which was really fun and we slid down it into the ocean. We went for pintos for our last dinner in San Sebastián at a kind of fancyish place. Well fancy for us! We had cocktails after which were nice. Me and Alice had sex on the beach cocktails and Bek had a pina colada. We were meant to meet hostel people at the beach later but they ditched us for the pub crawl! So we chilled in the room and packed our stuff. Oh and we also got incredible ice creams a few nights in a row, forgot to mention that. Alice and Bek got 6 scoops in 1 night, fatty boombas. I got 5 so I'm no better though. We had our bus the next day at 8, so when Matao and Bruno busted drunkenly into our hostel room with a group of friends we weren't happy. But eventually they left and we finally got some needed sleep. The bus ride was interesting. So long. We left at 8am and arrived in Paris at 10.30pm. Some minor hiccups along the way including Bek being stuck in a truck stop toilet for 45 minutes whilst they tried to bust down the door, holding up the whole bus. But we eventually reached Paris and arrived at our hostel, needing an early night as we discovered our train for Strasbourg actually left at 7.10am. What a joke, another early morning. I'll leave Strasbourg for another entry though, because there's a lot to share and its a different country to Spain, obviously. So keep tuned xoxo Molly.
