Day 4 Tuesday 1st June 2010, Petra day II.
'For the love of Johnny Depp'
After breakfasting on the same old s***, we got into Petra a lot earlier than yesterday, to beat the crowds and the heat! We climbed up to the Monastery and Margot decided to go up on a donkey to save her aching legs! We were expecting a long, tough, sweaty climb but it turned out to be not so long. It was fairly tough and sweaty though! Once at the top we were rewarded for our efforts (and those of Margot's donkey) by the amazing facade of the monastery! Wow it is massive and as with all the other impressive things here cut from solid rock, incredible!
We encountered our old friend Johhny Depp numerous times on our trip to the monastery and ended up sitting chatting with him once down from the climb, Margot was falling for him... oh he was gorgeous! He has the oddest catch phrases though, obviously especially made for attracting the attention of tourists, "take it easy Japaneeze" and "relax to the max" where two of our favourites!
After visiting the royal tombs and marvelling at the amazing colouring of the rocks there and numerous drinks in the bar next door, we left Petra and went to little Petra. As is now customary when we go anywhere in the car, we got lost on the way, and ended up back in the middle of town. We got there in the end though! It was so peaceful when we arrived and just as in Petra itself, the carved rocks had been made into buildings almost as impressive as those in Petra. It was peaceful until two bus loads of tourists appeared on their way out of the site!
We headed back into Wadi Musa for dinner after which the girls decided to bore Keith with yet more shopping! We ended up chatting with a couple of chaps from the shop and sitting outside drinking tea, nice! They told us about their families, their business and life in Jordan, pretty damn cool!
