Hello again! Today was quite an epic day. The word is that the best time to see Angkor Wat is at sunrise. So we followed the band wagon, hired a bicycle and took to the streets of Siem Reap at 5am.. yep, it was pitch black, there were no street lights and we were cycling along dirt tracks. In hindsight this wasn't the safest mode of transport, but it was the most fun. It felt amazing to be cycling along in Cambodia to catch the sunrise at one of the wonders of the world. Plus, there were loads of other people doing exactly the same thing, so we didn't feel alone. Sunrise at Angkor Wat was everything I'd expected and more, definitely worth getting up early for! We did try to get an elephant ride around Bayon temple (that's the temple you see in the picture attached to this blog), but it was really expensive, $30 for 15 minutes for the two of us! The elephants were cute, but not that cute!
One of the funniest things about being in SE Asia, is the amount of attention Tom is getting! We walk along the street, (particularly here in Siem Reap) and we get offered a tuk-tuk drive, and then he gets the 'ooh, you big man!', or my favourite '"oooo, your big beard is very sexy!!!"' And this attention isn't from women, but from the men. heheheheh. We're off to Sihanoukville next, wonder if Tom will get the same attention there!
Write soon. xxxx
Tom:
I think Nil's said as much as I would about Angkor Wat at sunrise - if ever you find yourself in Cambodia, see it - it's utterly stunning. She's kindly left out the detail of our fish-foot massage though (thanks Nil). $3 for 25 minutes of being tickled senseless by lil' fish in a lil' pool on pub street in Siam Reap. Brilliant! I'm looking forward to sitting on a beach for a couple of days before our next border crossing into Vietnam. Might blag a massage too! Speak soon.P.S. (Asian men don't really do it for me). TY
