Tuesday we went to Koh Phi Phi - a stunning island! The weather wasn't fantastic in the morning so we were a bit concerned but by the time we got on the boat it was ok. We stopped off in Phi Phi Ley first where The Beach was filmed. It has no inhabitants and is very secluded, the beach was packed though with loads of tourists who were doing a similar day trip to us. We then went into this little bay area that cant be accessed during low tide. We got to go for a little swim - awesom.e We then got back on the boat and took a look at Monkey Beach......the guide gave them all some bananas which was pretty entertaining to watch. We then stopped off for a snorkel which was really enjoyable.
Phi Phi Don was next where we had a nice lunch and I had a nap (standard). Then we headed for Koh Khai, a smaller island nearer to Phuket...this was interesting. The waves were pretty big and the driver was getting a little overexcited. We had a hilarious ride bumping up and down with people screaming all over the place. One of the guides looked pretty sea sick too. We had a hysterical time laughing when one of the men in front stood up holding the bars above him for support............the guy didnt have the freshest smell and we were getting smothered by it because of the wind.
We got a pina colada and mai thai to share on Koh Khai....in a real coconut and a pineapple! They were delish! We got to relax and read for an hour or so before heading back to Phuket where a monsoon had hit! Some serious rain. We enjoyed a nice meal at the hotel that night before bed time.
Yesterday was another chill day. We had a late breakfast and lay by the pool. We went for a walk on the beach but the beach is pretty steep presenting a bit of a challenge....We then had a pool side lunch before Jess, Em and I had to pack the bags to head for the airport! We said our goodbyes to the parents again before getting into our pretty luxurious taxi to the airport.
We were all pretty exhausted from being in the sun all day so were all a bit giggly......we got a bit overexcited as we got on the plain wanting to order milo and brownies. They only had two brownies so jessica got a "snack box" which consisted as of a toffee cake - yum - and (as the menu said) a "chicken bread" - not so yum.
We arrived in Chiang Mai, got the bags and went to find a taxi. We were pretty confused by the little man who kept waving his hand in a way that we couldnt figure out if he was saying "come" or "stay". We found out he meant come and got into a pretty lush car! He drove us to our little hostel called "a little bird hostel" where we were given our keys and dumped our bags. The plan was to take it easy but there were some people making a lot of noise playing drinking games above our room so we went to go check it out....within minutes we had grabbed our beers and had joined in the game of "Hat Man" which involes a pair of dice and someones forgotten hat......by midnight a rule of the game had become "if someone rolls a double 5, we go to the raggae bar".....of course immediately after a double 5 was rolled and we were out the door. Our chilled night in became a night out till 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning. Buckets were the drink of choice (again) however we decided to share them rather than each have our own! We were all a bit peckish by the time the bars were shutting down.....we went for some food at a very questionable little stall....it was meant to be chicken. Its safe to say we will never know what it actually was. We all took one bite and spat it out - one of the grossest things we've ever had...definitely learned our lesson there - no matter how hungry you are do not go buying dodgy looking chicken sticks off a little stall at 4am!
We woke up this morning all feeling fairly fragile. We went for a fry up down the road with our buddies from the night before. We then went an bummed by the pool at a different hotel - this defintely helped for the time being but as soon as we heated up again, the hangover hit! We moped back to the hostel and jess and i had a good two hour nap while emily read. We then headed out for lunch (bare in mind it was 4.30) and found this cute little smoothie and sandwich place where we enjoyed a very large amount of food!
We are going to avoid any games of Hat Man tonight as we are planning on going trekking tomorrow. Off to the market now to spend some more money!
