Marty's Adventures
Had a great sleep until 5am....then could not get back to sleep! It would appear 5am is my new wake up time!! Early rise means an early start on the road. Had breakfast at the hostel, there are floor to ceiling windows in the eating area....a big beautiful parrot slammed right into the window.....fell to the ground.....then just as fast took off! Not sure who got more of a fright....me or the bird!! With another forecast of rain and wind I was not too excited about the day ahead.....jumped in the vehicle with no "boss" today....within 10 minutes of leaving town I found myself driving amongst vibrant green rolling hills with cattle and sheep.....instantly got me out of my grumbling rainy day mood! For the next hour or so I drove through rain forrest and rolling hills.....rain forrest and rolling hills.....I ventured into the rain forrest for a short hike.....I may of been treading lightly with the thoughts of snakes in my head! Next I found myself exploring the Cape Ottway Lighthouse.....between the torrential down pours I climbed the light house....nearly blown off the top of it!! As well as some aboriginal sacred grounds in the area. I also saw many koala bears on the drive out to the light house.....sooo cute....I got a little closer to them today so was able to get some better pictures! Carrying on I found a cute little pull out and had a picnic.....on a side note.....the other thing I find difficult with driving on the other side of the vehicle is I am useless with my left hand.....opening my coffee cup....turning on the radio.....etc.....all takes a little more concentration... After my morning of torrential sideways down pours I was hoping it would clear very soon......the point of this little road trip was to photograph the 12 Apostles!! Not a word of a lie....I pulled into the first pullout....grumbled and put on my rain jacket .....walked to the look out in the pouring rain.....got out my camera and the rain stopped!! I hiked down to the beach and the sun came out!!!! Glorious!! I proceeded to explore the area for a few hours, different look outs and hikes along the way.....I kept seeing helicopters flying around....I drove past the helicopter tour place and something in me would not let me keep going!! I went in and booked myself a tour.....20 mins later I was flying over the 12 Apostles.....what an amazing experience.....I had a "My life is Beautiful" moment!! I headed into Port Campbell and found my hostel, all the hostels I have stayed in have been really nice....this one included! I got settled found some food....I had heard that one could seepenguins after sunset at a couple of lookouts....I decided to go to the less touristy place and found myself alone at this look out waiting in the gale force winds for these penguins.....I was about to give up when out of no where a penguin popped up!!! Yes...there were girly screams of delight!!! Then another and another......and they waddled up the beach.....I figure I saw about 50 or so then decided it was time to call it a night....no pics of the penguins as it was too dark! Sadly this first adventure is coming to a close, tomorrow I meet up with my broomball team and we have our first game tomorrow evening!
