Marty's Adventures
I awoke this morning before the 38 university students did and had a nice quiet breakfast....cut to 1/2 hr later and the place was chaos....I packed up and hit the road by 8am! I figured this was far to early for my 90km drive to my next hostel.....cut to 9 hrs later and I arrived at my hostel in Apollo Bay! What a horrible yet beautifully glorious day!! The weather was ****! The sun did shine a few times during the day, but for the most part it was sideways torrential rain!! The drive was beautiful regardless, a winding road along the coast.....most parts barely wide enough for two vehicles with cliff up and down to the ocean! The ocean was angry yet beautiful.....huge swells and lots of smashing waves.....driving along there are many beaches.....however.....not so much fun exploring the beaches with this lovely weather! I started my day on a mission to find kangaroos as I heard there were some on a golf course.... And kangaroos I discovered!! They were everywhere.....apparently they do not attack the golfers....so they leave them be! I was so excited to see them! I did a little hike to some falls, and by hike I mean I went down a gazillion stairs and then back up them! Not the most spectacular falls I have ever seen but nice to see none the less. Visited Split Point Lighthouse, the coastline is amazing!! Had a great lunch in a place called Lorne.....I have decided that there will be no more eating out as I blew my food budget for the day on my lunch!! Everything is so expensive.....maybe because it is a touristy place?? My GPS and I are butting heads it seems, it is a love hate relationship....I have named her "the boss" as she likes to boss me around! She does not like when I venture off track, which I do often.....am not sure how many times I heard....recalculating....today! I get myself lost and then she gets me back on track when I finally decide to listen! I found some koalas sleeping in trees in a place called Kennet River, soooooo amazing! I found a tree full of these colourful birds. I pulled over and walked around and took pictures.....at one point 5 or 6 of them decided to land on me....there may of been some girly screams....wish there had of been someone to take a picture!! Even with the horrible weather, it took me 9 hours to get 90 kms.....I found my way to the hostel I am staying at after picking up supper and breakfast at the grocery store. I checked in and handed her my drivers license. She looked at it and said she had someone else check in from the same place! Small world.....one of the girls from my broomball team is here!! We had supper together and had a great visit! We are venturing different ways tomorrow but will catch up on Tuesday back in Melbourne. A great day, 8 pm and I am ready for sleep! Tomorrow I find the 12 apostle, rock formations along the coast line.....the whole point of this portion of my trip!
