Marty's Adventures
My day started off extremely early..... 5am wide awake! I tried to get back to sleep but no such luck! What does a girl do?? Have her breakie and hit the road by 7!! I had a lovely coffee at a place called Woolgoola Beach! I had done some research and they say to take any of the tourist drives and you will find something amazing! This is true!! I found many amazing beaches this morning.....the highway then headed inland for a while. Was a bitter sweet drive inland! What should of taken an hour took about 4! So I will start with the sweet.... The highway followed a river for a very long time.... Along this river were to the most magnificent jacaranda trees..... You could smell them.... Breath it in.... Unfortunately they were mostly on people's property or in places I could not stop to take pictures.... I did however get a couple of pictures of a smaller one..... So beautiful! Cut to bitter part.... An over size load(super long) truck miscalculated a corner and took out a guard rail and some cars.... Soooooo stuck on the highway for three hours!!! Literally out of campa sitting in the grass on the side of the road making lunch out of the back of the campa kinda stuck on the highway!! I was 45 mins from my destination! I drove past fields and fields of sugar cane....I stopped and watched them harvesting for a while near a sugar refinery. Back to sweet!!! I found the most amazing caravan park!! I am sitting here typing this blog on the hill in yha camp kitchen looking out at the ocean listening to the waves!! I can see the lighthouse off in the distance!! How sweet is that!! Well except the wild turkeys which I will get back to! I got a site and headed into Byrons Bay, which turned out to be a crazed tourist/hippie town!! Soooo crowded and seemed kinda dirty..... I quickly did what I needed to do and headed back to my little oasis.... Broken Head National Park....I hit the beach, chilled out an smashed around in the waves.... Was so amazing! Headed back up and made supper while fending off wild turkeys.... They were fighting I was yelling.... Am sure it was a bit of a spectacle but now they are annoying the people cooking in the kitchen behind me and I am giggling! The weather was cool today, it didn't rain but it was cloudy and cool which was my saving grace hanging out on the highway today! Off to sleep to the sound of the ocean, first night of the whole trip I have been this close! The beach is about a 2 min walk from my campa! If I am up at 5am it may be a sunrise on the beach kinda morning!
