Marty's Adventures
Another long but spectacular day!! I woke up pretty early as this seems to be the norm. I tried to make myself sleep in but it just wasn't meant to be! I packed up and headed to Kyoto Station which is a spectacular station! Very modern and huge! I put my bag in a locker and got myself on the train to Inari. I am a pro at the train now by the way! Inari is just two stops away from the Kyoto so not really a big deal really! There has been one particular Shrine that I have wanted to see and I finally got there! The Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. I have seen the pictures of the gates and I needed to get there.... and there I was. It was beautiful! Everything I had imagined. The red gates were beautiful. I spent an hour or so wandering around and went part way up the back as there is a hiking trail that goes up the hill behind. I made my way back to the train and got myself back to Kyoto station. It was now only 10 in the morning so I decided I would head to Nishiki Market as I was not planning to take the train until 1230. I hopped on a subway and made my way to the Market which happened to be within a few blocks of my hotel. I spent some time wandering through the market, all kinds of foods I have never seen before! I tasted lots of tasters and many I wish I had not of tasted! I bought a few souvenirs. I wanted to buy the wooden thong shoes but the womans shoes are all so tiny and they laugh and say too tiny but then when I grab the men's ones that are bigger they say no no no only for men!! I bought some men's ones under the impression they were for someone else.... I hope this is not a bad thing! I made my back to the station and got on a Shinkansen ( bullet train) and made my way to Hiroshima. A few of the girls from the team are here as well and are staying a few blocks from me. I went over and picked them up and we headed to a place called pancake alley. They make these dishes that have egg on the bottom and Dino noodles and cabbage in the middle with other stuff then egg on top with saucy goodness. It is actually called Okonomiyaki. Mmmmm good! After dinner we headed over to the Peace Park where we sat on the steps across the river from the A Bomb Dome. We read about the building and the bombing in general. We had a very powerful moment. Tomorrow I will go to the museum in the morning. We headed back to my hotel as they wanted to walk me back. We passed a pachinko place(casino) and tries to play. I quickly lost $5, I think we all quickly lost $5 and left! Back to my hotel room and exhausted again. I am feeling a bit better but I am out of cold meds so will see how this goes. Hoping for a good sleep and no alarm clock set!
