NORTHEAST ARGENTINA - TRAVELLING DOWN TO BUENOS AIRES… PART 3
Thursday 16th July - Friday 17th July
Rosario provided a breath of fresh air, in more ways than one. After the dull, disappointing town that was Resistencia and a nearly sleepless overnight jounrey on a cold and smelly semi-cama bus, the leafy, fresh plazas, large green parks and beautiful buildings lining the clean avenues of Rosario were welcomed with open arms (and noses!).
Rosario was a great place to simply stroll around and watch the world go by. Trendy shops and cafes selling ice creams, scrummy biscuits and submarinos (warm milk with a bar of chocolate - muy bueno!) dotted the streets and around the plazas. The Monumento Nacional a la Bandera (the monument to the flag which marks where the first flag of Argentina was raised) was nice to look around but unfortunately the lift to the top of the tower which provides views over the river and the city was closed, due to Swine Flu. This was to become a recurring theme in Rosario, as a couple of other museums that we wanted to visit were also closed due to the flu. Although this was again anooying and frustrating, at least the local bars and clubs hadn´t been affected by Swine Flu. A night out in McNamara´s proved to be a lot of fun; local music, dancing till the early hours of the morning and free drink from the members of the band is always a good thing. Oh, and Rich and Glenn dancing like loons was the highlight of the evening... providing your own entertainment is often the most amusing!
In terms of checking things off our to do list, not much more was achieved in Rosario; it was a nice little stop on our way down to Buenos Aires and was a nice place to learn more about the people of Argentina. And, if we hadn´t have stopped over we wouldn´t have met Emily, Raz, Glenn and Catherine who provided great fun and laughs not only in Rosario, but when we reunited in Buenos Aires, too!
