Hiiiiii everyone!!
I've been here in Chile now for one week and the time has flown by. It has been a week filled with adventures, culture, spanish, school and lots of black tea. I am currently living with a 39 year old lady named Ely (Elizabeth) in a gated townhouse community in Concepcion, Chile. We get along very well, being she's very sociable and sweet. It seems as though she's always dancing and singing. She has a son who is 17, but he lives with his dad in Los Angeles, which is a town about an hour from here. She works in a plant, where she is the supervisor of water chemicals which help the environment and water creatures. We also have a nanny, named Gladys who comes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Gladys cooks, cleans and takes my friend Jessa and I to the mall. It's fantastic!
It's rainy season here in Concepcion. The temperature is around 50 degrees and a little windy. Yesterday was the worst rain we've had thus far. The streets around our school were completely flooded, resulting in SOAKED shoes, socks and pants up to our knees. You wern't even able to see the curbs or roads...barely the sidewalks were visable. Classes were canceled in the afternoon. It was unbelievable.
Concepcion is a very nice city. My school is about a 30 min drive in a 'colectivo' every morning. Colectivos are crazy forms of taxis...they are hard to explain. Hardly no one here speaks english, which makes speaking spanish a must. So need I say...my spanish has improved. The spanish here is different than i've studied before. The locals use many 'Chilenismos' which are slang words for everyday meanings. They also don't pronounce the letter 's' in many words.
I started school on Monday at the University of Concepcion. It's a beautiful campus as you can see from the photos posted. I only have class Monday 9-12; Wednesday 9-12 and Thursday from 9-12 and 1-6. Three day weekend every week!!!! YAYYYYY.
I'm loving everything here, but I love you all more.
Besos.
