Hiii!
So I Just got back from my five day, four night adventure to Mendoza, Argentina with my two friends Christina and Jessa. The area of Mendoza populates around 900,000 people, but the city itself only around 130,000.It's about a 12 hour bus ride from Concepcion to Mendoza with a few hours of layover in Santiago.A very, very curvy road runs through the Andes and connects Chile to Argentina. Along the way you see many ski resorts and hikers. It's a very scenic journey, which was worth the many hours. You cross the boarder and go through customs at the top of the Andes, which was easier to do that expected.(We haven't received our Chilean ID's yet.)We arrived in Mendoza at about 4 pm on Saturday, after leaving Concepcion at 12 am, the previous night. We checked into our Hostel, which cost us about $11 USD each night…cheap. We definitely got what we paid for.Dirty floors, dirty showers and dirty beds.If definitely felt amazing to shower when I got back to Concepcion.Besides the dirty-ness, we had a good time. There was an adorable café below our hostel and we were also very close to "el centro" (Sacramento Avenue) which had many shops and good restaurants.Argentina is supposed to be home to some of the best steak in the world.Red meat isn't my favorite, but I did take advantage of the in-expensive leather…purchasing some super cute gray boots.
During the day we would lounge around in parks or shop and during the night we would hit up Aristidades Villanueva, which is a street filled with low key bars and sidewalk seating. It was very picturesque.
Mendoza is known for their wine and olive oil production, so on Wednesday we jumped a bus and went on a 5 hour vineyard tour.Being that it's winter here in South America, the grapes weren't blossoming yet. It was hard to comprehend that it was winter in Mendoza. The weather was fantastic.Full sun and 75 degree weather the entire time.I wish I could have bottled it up and brought it back to Concepcion. Our tour concluded with a GIANT meal, located at a house in the country. When we walked into the room, our jaws dropped, we had no idea what to look at.It reminded me of Thanksgiving - Chilean style!
I returned last night, Thursday, at around 7pm, just in time to celebrate Chile's Independence. It's a four day long celebration with lots of music, food and pisco. There are flags on practically ever house and children walking around in traditional outfits. So cute!!I'm currently in the backyard basking in the sunshine, which has been making more of an appearance lately. It was a beautiful day here in Concepcion, and enjoyed by most.
School resume on Monday. It will be difficult to return, being I've had vacation for two weeks.
Hope you're all doing well. Love you.
