(Happy Birthday Dad!)
Hola, hola.
We are now finished with our first part of our stay here. 1 course down, 1 to go. We have this week off, so we're doing a bit of traveling. And of course, I'm broke. =) hahaha! Well.... actually we have most everything paid for, but what my guide book says for tour prices and what they actually are here is quite different. :*(
We arrived in La Fortuna (which is the town outside of Arenal Rainforest/Volcano) yesterday and just chilled by the pool and drank margaritas for the most part!! =) Today we (minus 1) were up bright and early for a horse-back ride to the waterfall La Fortuna. First time on a horse, most amazing freaking thing I've done yet, bad ass waterfall!!!! I took a water camera with me since I was afraid of dropping my good one, and plus can't take it to the waterfall, so won't have pictures up anytime soon. But if you have a minute, look up La Fortuna waterfall, Arenal, Costa Rica!!!! So... yeah.... my butt is quite sore, and our guide thought it was great fun to get the horse to gallop all the damn time. Yeah... not funny! (hahaha!) I'm so surprised I kept my seat!! BUT.... they said I was a natural "horse woman". I told him he must be drunk. ;o) So the tour was 1/2 hour horseback ride, 20 minute hike down the mountain to the falls, 20 minutes climbing through the rapids and up and over rocks to the falls (and playing in the waves from the falls), then back up the hella mountain (did I mention the Indiana Jones bridge we had to cross???), back on the horses who know longer wanted to work, to the village of indigenous peoples, galloping across the fields with stirrups too long for me, and into the corral as though we had been walking the horses all along. Good times, good times...
TOMORROW... it's back actually to the same place but this time we're doing a canopy tour. What's that you ask? Well, it's zipping through the rainforset on 16 different cables/platforms, over the waterfalls at death-defying speeds, and once again galloping on the horses to get there and back and another stop with the naked indigenous peoples. Then that night we're going on a night volcano tour (YAY!) on the active side (yep that's right people, ACTIVE!! That means trembling and lava...) with a stop at the hot springs and dinner.
And that wraps up our stay in Arenal. Tuesday we split ways with 3 of us going to the best beach in all of Costa Rica (Playa Conchal), and the others going back to San Jose for a few days, then going to the beach as well (though I'm sure it won't be as cool as ours). I will update again there and let you know that, yes, I'm still alive after the canopy tour, and let you REALLY know if it's the best beach in all of CR. =)
Peace out cub scouts!!
¡Pura Vida!
