Miranda's Trip
Yo yo de yo!
Hows it going? Hope everyones not to cold at home, spoke to Euan last night (well your last night, it was mid afternoon for me) and he said it was bloody freezing at home and he is running around in snow - where as I spent the day mincing around in a wee vest top enjoying the sun. Was so nice yesterday Jenny has actually managed to get sun burnt and her chest is bright, lobster red. Don't think today is going to be quite so nice though as I can see a few clouds out. Hopefully though when its a bit later in the day then the sun will burn them off and it will be nice again.
Al and I went on the Hollywood tour yesterday as Jenny wanted a lie in and we didn't want to do it when she was going to be left alone so it all panned out well. Our tour guide was this Croation guy called Donkey who was bloody hilarious. It was $40 well spent as we saw loads of stuff that we would never have got round to seeing, especially as when we got back late afternoon Jenny had got on a bus to Hollywood Boulevard and it had taken her 2 hours to get there alone! We saw everything, but despite our best star watching efforts we didn't see any celebrities. We did get to all the usual tourist hangouts, like Rodeo Drive and Venice Beach. There are some mental people here, when I put my pictures up you'll see one at the basketball courts on Venice beach. Al was taking a picture of me when this guy threw a basketball into the picture (note to him - not bloody funny!)then as if to make up came and grabbed me in a bear hug. He was a mental case to say the least! We are going back to Venice Beach today as when we went yesterday it was quite early and apparently it doesn't become the freak show it really is until about midday. I think were going to hire bikes, or more specifically a three man bike which will be hilarious. Or dangerous more to the point!
Anyway, as predicted I have got some brilliant photos. Will get them all burnt onto a CD before I leave LA so I can put them on here within the next couple of days. They are so predictable though its shameful. Once we get out of the mega touristy areas I will try and get more artistic stuff - oh who am I kidding! I am mega tourist over here!
We had pretty much nothing to do last night so we went to the pictures and saw Date Movie. I hated myself for laughing as it was in such bad taste but some bits of it were bloody hilarious - although I do feel quite disgusted with myself for that! but it killed an evening. That and it kept us out of the room away from a mental lady who is also in there. We are in a six man room which is full. One of the women is dead nice and has flown over from Japan for the LA marathon. One of them doesn't say very much, but the other one one! Man she is a kook! I think she is a hobo who has some how managed to sneak in under the tramp radar they have. She has this big red suitcase that she has drawn over with a glitter pen, and not because she is all artistic or a free spirit - nope, because she is fooking mental. She doesn't seem to sleep as she is talking to herself or making this funny wailing sound all night. Man will I be glad to not be sharing a room with her come tomorrow.
I still really like it here, although am very aware that the neat and manicured side of LA that I have seen is very different to LA as a whole. Santa Monica though is so wicked. The hostel is right in the middle and everything is around it. Its just a mega clean and happy place. Theres just as many tramps and hobos as in SF but they don't seem as brazen which is nice. In SF they don't just ask for spare change, there in your face wanting $10! Tramps obviously have high expectations nowadays!
Anyway, here comes the usual plea for gossip from home - keep me up to date!
Lots of love, Rands XxX
