Maureen's travels to South America & Antarctica No
Isnt this an amazing iceberg? I was swept away by the beauty of it. All the ice in Antarctica is made up of fresh water. Most of all of Antarctica's moisture falls as snow and seldom melts in the cold conditions and so it piles up on top of flakes from the last snowfall. The weight compresses and over the course of several years turns to balls of 'firn'. Afer a few more years of snow accumulation the firn becomes ice. this results in the build up of glaciers and ice sheets!!
I learned a lot on this trip!!
