Maureen's travels to South America & Antarctica No
Isnt this an amazing iceberg? I was swept away by the beauty of it. All the ice in Antarctica is made up of fresh water so seldom melts in the cold conditions and so piles up on top of the flakes from the last snowfall. The weight of the snowfall on snowfall compresses as flakes and over the course of several years the snow turns to little granulated balls called "firn" After a few years of snow accumulation the firn becomes ice. A little lecture there for you all. I get carried away at times. Have seen on TV but nothing like seeing it in the flesh. Breaktaking!!
