We arrived at Bangkok's Thonburi station across the river, at about 10.30am. We got a taxi and after a short detour to Pantip Plaza to swap over some dodgy pirate dvds we arrived at Bangkok's main train station, Hulamphong. Our Train to Chiang Mai was scheduled to leave here from Platform 5 at 7.30pm. That left us with about 5 hours wait!!

We managed to pass the time quite well by lazing about watching the goings on in and outside of the station, and then eating food in between! We had a really nice Papaya salad from a stall across the road and some roasted pork on rice. We got these same meals to take on the train. At about 6.30 we collected our big packs from the 'left luggage' booth and headed out to the train waiting on the platform. Leaving about 45 mins late at 8.15, we started to chugachug out of the station and away from Bangkok, Northwards to Chiang Mai!

Our 2nd class sleepers were comfy and cheap and we drifted off to sleep on our soft, yet shaky, beds!

We arrived in Chiang Mai at 1pm, about 3 hours late!

All in all, a comfy journey!
