Day 2
I'm actually writing this entry a week after it happened so in all honesty it's not going to be great, already starting to forget what we've done which is annoying me, one of the reasons why I want to get upto date with the blog. Woke up this morning in my top bunk above Domskin by a cheeky jam of Mumford And Sons (great band) on the ipod speaker, feeling extremely hungover but in a potentially banging mood ready for a great day! Ruth and Rachel were b*****ing off to Melbourne, the two girls going to South America had gone and we had to check out of the hostel as John was picking us up to take us over to Orange so it was all go from the start. We decided we'd try and simply check out, keep the room open by jamming a flip flop under the door so we could then come back upto the room for a couple hours kip as they didn't get cleaned till about 12 so we checked out, got our 20 buck deposit back, headed back up to room 506, had a shower and ate some cuppa soup for breakfast from yesterday which helped me to freshen up a bit.
We tried to sleep for a bit but then two sweedish girls came into the room for their first night so we spoke to them for a bit, then had about two hours sleep, then went out to the park opposite the hostel because it was a day of epic weather (29 degrees). We knew it would be a bit of a chillout day today, everyone was knackered and hungover so thought best to just jam in the park, try to spend as little money as possible.
Ended up staying in the park until Jonny Boy picked us up. Jammed about playing guitar for a bit while catching the rays, I'm gonna be immense at the guitar by the time I get back I swear, playing it so much out here, definately worth bringing, learning Coldplay Yellow at the moment. Going to try and teach Dom a trick or two as well, he's learning Wonderwall at the moment and loving it. Also jammed to a bit of Toots and Maytals - Pressure Drop for a good while.
For a small park in the middle of Sydney, it's genuinely buzzing with people. Theres a couple chinese rehersing lines, few chicks sunbathing and then your general aussie half abo half white tramps drinking in the corner, asking every person that could possibly walk past them for 50c, asking us to play them a song lol. Theres actually quite a good amount of tramps in Sydney, suppose it's the same as any other city. Went for a quick walk around, upto Central Station, round China Town for a bit but nothing too special. Couldn't take any photo's today as the camera ran out of battery and had nowhere to charge but adopted Dom's for the day.
We hadn't actually spoken to John all day so gave him a ring about 5 to make sure he was still actually coming, and he was actually just walking through the park. Dom thought he had a beard so couldn't see him, then a man on the phone just turned up behind us - Jonny Boy had arrived in his BMW :-D.
Now let me describe John - great guy. He had just drove 4 hours out of his way to pick us up. He knows everything about anything, football, aussie rules, soccer, cricket, music, politics haha. He was once the mayor of Orange but now writes the whole of a mining magazine, has financial involvement in Orange's local newspaper and is just a right genuine guy. Sydney round rush hour is a killer to get out of, he showed us the ghetto of Sydney which is mainly populated by the aborigines. Drove past Sydney university, i just thought it would be amazing to go there. Might look into it to tell the truth, meant to be like the Oxford of Australia but there school year starts in January which is pretty random.
Yesterday I mentioned that drinking the tap water was potentially not a great idea - the prediction was right I think. I started to feel rough as soon as I got in the car, first thought it was a hangover so I tried to sleep it off in the car but was definately more than that. It started to get pretty dark so I was happy to try and sleep it off but nothing changed after two hours. We stopped off after about an hour at a fish and chippy and Jonny boy told us he was getting the chips in so I limited myself and just bought a piece of cod. Over here, instead of them showing the cooked food on display, the show it raw, bit of random knowledge there, but the fish didn't go down well and I ended up throwing up for the first time round the corner of the chippy, but I got a drink and some chips to see what happened. I saw a bunch of people playing football, and at the time, it just looked so cool, just being able to play football at 8 PM at night and not be cold at all.
I powered through the next 2 hours of the Journey, not feeling great, but powered through and ended up getting to Orange about 10 o'clock without throwing up again. The house looked pretty kool, bunch of birds everywhere I think theyve got an avery or something. Went in and simply karked out on the bed, all three of us are sharing a room which is kool, Dom's on the camp bed haha! Will let you know if the chips stay down tomorrow....G'nite UK!
