Day 5
- Woke up massively early to get to Manly
- Extremely exhausted all the way so slept on the road trip
- Went down a road that was apparantly known for being full of kangaroo's and ended up seeing a herd of them running away into the woods
- Drove through the Blue Mountains and took a couple photo's, not sure if we will go there again, would be good to but about $100
- Got into Manly at about 11 AM and went to the Rugby League game
Weren't a great amount of people at the youth game. Manly won against The Sharks (can't remember what city it was). THe atmosphere was kind of like football and cricket, lots of alcohol, not many chants, but everyone can like sit where they want on the grass etc. so we sat just infront of the main hill. The cheerleaders were pretty stunning.
The game ended up 40-12 to Manly so everyone was in a buzzing mood. The day was about 30 degrees, the hottest we'e had so far. There's this thing they call "Video Refferee" that they do if the try isn't obviously correct while the ref analysis it, kind of like the Challenge thing in Tennis, so everyone goes crazy for it when "TRY" appears on the screen.
After the game, John dropped us off down to our hostel at Manly which was about 100m from the beach and the main stretch and about 250m from where John and Lynn were staying. This was the first beach we saw of Australia - best sand ever, no pebbles or shingle rubbish like in UK, just pure sand, it was busy as well because of the hot day but we didn't get the chance to go down there as wanted to get rid of our bags.
This hostel was definately nothing compared to Wake Up. A little shabby 3 storey place on the side of the street. The woman didn't seem to have any idea about our booking but we sorted it out and went into a 4 man dorm. The room was a bit of a joke, I suppose were going to find those along the way. There were names carved into the wall, no ladder to get up the bloody bunks and the bunks purely shake and rock more than you would think possible, which wasn't great when your sleeping above a stranger.
We were trying to work out what kind of guy we were sharing a room with and predicted American (had an American football), early 30's............
