So, just when I thought today was going to be incredibly uneventful, Sweety turned up.
I should explain. I left for lunch today with my room a tip, as I wasn't expecting any visitors, so you can imagine my surprise and horror when Flower arrived with my new roommate/ teaching assistant. A super quick 10 second clean-up occurred where, I am proud to say, I managed to make the room reasonably inhabitable. Once I gave her a whistle stop tour of our room, I left her in the capable hands of TamPan to give her a tour of the campus. I must add another note here as I believe I haven't explained who TamPan is yet; he's Joshua's roommate/ teaching assistant.
So, while TamPan was distracting Sweety I did a proper clean-up of the rooms, leaving them beautiful clean by anyone's standards. Spotless by my standards. ;p Unfortunately I failed to empty our bin (which contained about 20l of water bottles. Her first comment upon re-entering the room? 'You must go toilet a lot'. Uhhh, first impressions are the most important? Hopefully they don't stick… :/
Once Sweety had arrived, we were called into the office (Flower's dorm) and given a pep talk about team work. This I was happily agreeing with, but when she mentioned 'tonight's activity' I started to panic. I was only just recovering from our impromptu lecture singing yesterday, and was certainly not prepared for another task. Oh well, like I had a choice. We were informed that we would have to meet at the city square at 7pm ready to advertise the school to everyone in a 'fun way'. After emptying both the boy's heads of ideas, I decided a treasure hunt may be most appropriate in the time we had to prepare. I am once again proud to say we pulled through magnificently, creating a beautiful walking picket, a game and 2 songs for the children to learn. Our intention had been that I and Joshua would perform all the tasks, but after arriving at the square, it was very quickly apparent that we would never lose our throng of children and so delegated the task of hanging and hiding ribbons to TamPan and Sweety. I was then abandoned by Joshua to do all the teaching (as he was on the 'very important job' of holding the picket. -_-) but I pulled it out of the hat and managed to not only get all of the children to find ribbons, but to teach them 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes' and 'Old McDonald'. It was a trifle difficult, especially the llama noises (?!?,) but it worked and I had 30 perfectly performing children after about half an hour. The parents were very impressed, and it looked great for the school advertising wise. Job done.
If only the children had been our target age range... A problem we probably should have foreseen, but hey-ho; Live and learn.
