well hello there!! Picking up from where we left off... BAngkok for one more night! Managed to find a room pretty easily and because we had seen the sights of Bangkok we spent the day sleeping (didnt manage much on the sleeper train) and sunbathing at the roof top pool! Met up again with Maddy and Alex from the sleeper train for a night out... started at a bar owned by a man called crazy (the bar had been shut down by the police so there was no music, no lights just alcohol and good people :) all we needed really). The guys ate some fried crickets, apparently they taste like popcorn!! then we got in a tuktuk and headed to Patpong for a PingPong Show!! Had a tuktuk race with the other guys, which was madly dangerous but very funny!! The pingpong show was interesting to say the least they do everything with thier ladygardens bar having a baby!!!! So after that we headed back to Khao San Rd for a few more drinks, learnt how to shotgun a can (very american) and carried on chatting to people from all over the world! All in all a very funny night!
Arrived in sydney at 7am, and we couldnt go in the dorm because our roomates were sleeping so we headed down to Sydney harbour to take the the opera house etc without all the tourists!! come back to the dorm, which is really nice and young like, and cracked on with some sleeping!!! that evening then we took another long walk to Darling harbour, which was lovely at sunset and enjoyed a drink, overlooking all the yachts, dreaming they were ours!!
Day 2: My camera decides to completely pack in, so off to the shop to take a look at new ones, which i had to buy, its really nice!! Then we got on a Touristy tour bus, hop on hop off around sydney and its beaches! We really enjoyed the ride, went to see Bondi but it was so busy by the afternoon we decided we would go back another day! So to get out of the heat a bt we went to the Hyde Park Barracks Museum where they used to sent all the convicts when they arrived from britain... really interesting! There were 4 Millers and 6 Donaldsons in the records!! We walked down to circular quay again then so i could show Miller what it's like when its not early morning....very busy full of people taking pictures and because the weather was so beautiful the opera house bars were heaving with people having drinks and grub. That night we sat in the Chill out room and the hostel watching some tv, getting a early=ish night cos it was New Years Eve the next day.
Day 3- we woke up quite late, so was too late to go down the harbour cos we had been told that people queue up from as early as 6am! so we qucikly met up with Olivia, Dylan, Josie & Ants, made a plan for the night and got going! We headed to a bottle shop ( they dont sell alcohol just anywhere like at home) got our coolers and alcohol and spent 45 mins walking around a heaving, boiling sydney, searching for bags of ice! We then spent half hour trying to find out how to get to Balmain (a suburb of sydney), eventully got on the bus,all 3 coolers dripping out the melted ice, leaving puddles everywhere we went! lol As we walked down the hill of Balamain we couldnt believe our luck the veiws of the bridge and harbour were awesome!! There was a good 2,000 people, who we could see had been there all day with thier tents and stuff so we walked straight to the front, found a patch of grass and cracked open the bottles!! Spent the evening getting excitied for the fireworks and catching up with everyone, sharing stories and laughing. They do a firework display at 9pm for the children and it just teased us. it was brill and made us more excitied for the big un's!! When we done the countdown and the fireworks started i couldnt believe we were actully in Sydney seeing in 2011 before everyone back home under the famous fireworks! Amazing! You can see how they spend so much on the fireworks, there so amazing i could have cried!! After getting back to Central Sydney, we just walked with the crowds and hit Mc D's!! funniest moment of 2011 so far.... Ants opening a bottle of sparkling water, spraying a good 20 people in the Mc D's queue then drunkenly slurring 'sorry everyone, thought it was still'!! Very funny...all in all the best New Years Eve EVER! Doubt anything will ever top it!
Day4- Another late start today, obvisously very hungover and tired so we took a wander to Darling Harbour, laid on the boardwalk for a bit, catching some sun. Then we went into Sydney Aquarium, lego are had done a display around the aquarium which were awesome too, some had over 350,000 pieces! It was really good to walk through the underwater tunnels seeing the fish. Matt found nemo too, and ran down the shark tunnels shouting ' Beck, look sharkkksss'! In Australia sharks are protected now, so they got a shark tracking programme! You can see on big screens how it all works and so many sharks go in and around Sydney harbour and Bondi!!
Day 5-We got up early for once and set off to Bondi! We had to get a train, which is a double decker! to Bondi then a 10 min bus. Matt wanted to walk but we got lost and wandered around for a good 45 mins....cue first argument!!! Once we arrived at Bondi the veiw walking down the hill was beautiful, which Matt needed to point out we wouldntve seen it if we got the bus!!! We went to see the Iceberg Club with the swimming pool on the beach and headed down to the beach! We fell asleep for 2 hours and woke up to.... a packed beach! Nightmare people sitting next to eachother in arms reach, flicking sand everywhere. So we headed back to Sydney before everyone else did, even thought the trains were packed.
Day 6- spent the whole morning trying to find accomdation for Byron Bay, it's full though! Everyone must have been in Sydney for New years and now are heading up the coast! So we took the monorail ( sky train) down to darling harbour cos it was a bit rainy and went in the Maritime Musuem (free). Was quite interesting about the sharks and history of surfing etc quite a quiet and chilled day.
Day 7- We caught the ferry over to Manly Beach today, the veiws of the harbour are gorgeous from a different angle. the beach is full of surfers, typical australian beach, we had fun watching the surf schools and people falling off! We took some sandwhichs and a seagull stole mine outta my mouth, hit me with his wings! Im not a big fan of birds so after some screaming and swearing on my part.. matt laughing his head off we headed back to sydney after a nice day at the beach! Were leaving sydney tomorrow headding to Byron Bay. Weve got a sleeper coach for 12 hours to Byron so tomorrow we'll just waste the day getting a few bits n bobs done...along with watching the Ashes!!
