Milla and Jonny's Travels
We are finally back on the mainland, we've had enough of beaches for the moment. On our last few days in Koh Phangan we got a bit bored, so decided to take a tour on the 'Reggae Magic' boat trip, complete with its own form of Rasta magic. We rode on a long tail boat (the ones they use for fishing) and sailed round the island with some Thai rastas. We saw yet another waterfall (and Milla fell down it); some beautiful, isolated beaches which can only be reached by boat; we went snorkelling and saw barracudas and sampled some of the local herb!
On Monday we left for the mainland and stayed in a port town called Surat Thani. This was a slightly strange experience as we felt very much in a minority here, compared to on the islands, and we saw about 2 other 'farang' (foreigners). From Surat Thani we took a bus to the beautiful Khao Sok National Park. This is an amazing rainforest/jungle in the centre of Thailand. Here we are staying in a tree top hut, overlooking a river. Last night, after dinner we went out with two thai guys on a night safari. To be honest, it was less of a safari and more of a stroll in the dark!. However, we did see some very cool things such as long tail monkeys sitting in trees and an amazing light show put on by thousands of fireflies.
This morning we got up bright and early to do a spot of elephant trekking (as you do). We rode on a huge male elephant called Ply, who was very cute. Our trek took us into the heart of the jungle, ending up at yet another waterfall! Afterwards, Milla got to feed Ply bananas and he loved it.
Not much else to report,
