Milla and Jonny's Travels
G'day! There is not a great deal to report, but I know you are all itching to know what we're doing (!) so here it is:
After leaving the very dull Coff's harbour, we made our way to the infamous town of Byron Bay. This is a little surfer/hippy town overrun by backpackers. It had an extremely chilled out atmosphere and we met some really good people in our hostel bar, and took part in pool competitions (Camilla can play pool now, believe it or not!)and generally lazed around. On our second day there we took a trip on The Happy Coach into a very surreal little place called Nimbin. This town was taken over in 1972 by a group of free-loving hippies who didn't fit in in Sydney or Brisbane. There is no real police authority in the town, which means it has become a sort of very-mini Amsterdam. Although we had a great time there, it was a bit sad to see all the ageing hippies wandering around not being able to string a sentence together.
We then travelled on to Surfer's Paradise, which to be honest is not exactly 'Paradise'. It is a town full of high rise flats and shopping malls, and the nightlife was highly dubious. However, we had fun jumping through 3 metre high waves and almost getting sucked in by the treacherous riptides.
We are currently in Brisbane, a definite change from the beach life - which is quite refreshing. As you can see from the photos we have been very cultural, by visiting museums and art galleries. Milla was ill today (a consequence of too much time at the Down Under Bar?) so Jonny went off exploring - the pictures say it all, really! The painted boxes are traffic light signal boxes, there are 700 in Brisbane, all individually painted by local artists.
On Saturday, we are going to stay on a farm in the Outback where we will be horseriding, quadbiking, whipcracking, cattleherding, campfire cooking, and (best of all) looking after orphan baby kangas.
