Milla and Jonny's Travels
We have just arrived in our final Australian destination - the very sunny city of Cairns. We have had a very crazy last 2 weeks and so we are happy to spend our last 3 days in Oz chilling out (maybe with a little skydive or something!).
I (Camilla) am currently suffering from a second bad case of tonsilitis in 2 weeks, but am on some army-standard antibiotics to sort it out!
The photos from our Outback farm stay do not really do justice to all the activities we did (we lost our camera the day we arrived at Myella so we had to rely on other people lending us theirs!). I spent most of the days on a very lovely horse called Gadget, and, after an initial psychological battle between us, we kicked up lots of red dust cantering through the Outback. Jonny did not enjoy the horses as much and spent his time doing jumps on his motorbike on the dirt tracks surrounding the farm as well as rounding up cattle and horses on his bike. My very short motorbike affair ended quickly after I managed to fall off and have the bike land on top of me - very embarrassing! One of the highlights of our farm stay, for both of us, was the many kangaroos that lived on and around the farm. They were all very tame and loved being stroked (they were like strange-looking cats), and we particularly fell in love with an orphan joey that we got to feed every evening.
After reluctantly leaving the farm, we made our way to Airlie Beach - an infamous backpacker hangout and the gateway to the gorgeous Whitsunday islands. We booked ourselves on to a sailing trip on the racing yacht 'Condor' (which has apparently won every saling race in the world twice). We spent 3 days, 2 nights, living, sleeping, eating and drinking on the sailboat which was at times a little claustrophobic but we soon lovingly came to call it home. The Whitsundays are part of a National Marine Park so we saw lots of breeding turtles and did some great snorkelling. Other people on our trip saw reef sharks and stingrays but neither of us were that lucky! The sailing life was definitely very idyllic (despite the cramped sleeping conditions) and it was definitely something we could get used to.
Our Australia trip has gone by so quickly, we feel as if we have hardly done anything - Oz definitely needs at least 6 months to be explored properly. The next entry will be from Feejee, but look out for sailing photos...
