So after a couple of days in Pakse being let down by lonely planet we made our way to the islands, yeah but is not as idyllic as the islands in Thailand . No these islands are in the middle of the chocolate Mekong , but they're still pretty lovely.
First of all we made our way to Don Khong, which is the biggest island and probably the quietest, well it was until we and two other Brit girls got there. Basically we learnt our lesson by getting a doddle of a one hour car ride and five minute boat ride to get there having being put off local buses and meat for at least a couple of days by the screaming farm animals. We arrived at this really sleepy island and the only sound was the locals' playing that bowls game. So we decided just to chill out for the rest of the afternoon and get a massage which sounded heaven... well it did until Mr. Pon (our guesthouse owner) told me that my massage will be done by the local lady boy which was nice, at this point the was no mistake that Jack was going first. After an hour of sitting outside building up courage I went in, and to be fair it was ok I even fell asleep (big manly coughs now) I got an hour massage Aaron got at least an hour and a half, we all know which way this ladyboy was swinging!Later on that night we decided to bite our tongue and pay a dollar a minute for the internet which is scandalous, but it was ok mine turned off at ever click of the mouse, but Aaron was ok! we met Sam and Clare there and the rest of the night just ended up a bit of a blur. One point of this night I would like to point out was the stubborn ass girlfriend I have not as stubborn as you dear!. If I ever tried to persuade Jack to try and drink whisky she would just tell me to take a hike... however when to nice new girls say "have a go of this its really nice", she's only happy to oblige I had a glass, not like you trying to hitch my up on a dentist chair with a funnel in your hand was it!. The even better part was at 3 in the morning when she was throwing up, and I was fine by the way. Then came those words. "I told you, you shouldn't have drunk so much" in the most patronizing way ever. Well the next morning was even better Jack with a hangover and a nice 32K bike ride in the blazing heat (we didn't know it was 32k at the time.) and I had a bike called Fairy Turbo, MANLY your really not coming of too well, Alan you'll need to duff him up a bit when we get home!. Anyway after scoffing down breakfast the other girls turned up we got on our little city bikes and set off. It was a bloody good job the road was paved all the way (not like Don Det) cause it was a long 4 hour ride, and the sound of every kid on the island coming out there house shouting "Sabbai Dee" was now starting to get a little tiring. It was a good job we had Sam (the navigator) on our team, cause if we had made the right turn I was suggesting and not the left, we would almost definitely been stuck in a massive storm Aaron licking his finger and putting it into the air?he can tell you which way the beach is by doing this?failed us again, sure he's taking the mickey!. Luckily enough we were home just in time to experience the leccy being cut off every 5 minutes the restaurant leaking, and forks of lightning that were a bit too close for comfort. While all this was going on I decided to throw jeans and trainers on just so I could stop- jack moaning on how I am never going to wear them. After another night of cheap whisky drinking, I noticed the whisky was starting to have a effect on me as this was the second morning on the trot that I had woken up really early. This was probably one of the most memorable mornings so far. It was 5.30 the sun was just coming up and I took some of the best pictures so far on this trip (I did try and wake Jack but she was having none of it. oi I got up and looked out of the window!...then crawled back into bed?but I did see it!) After the sun came up all the local temples started to ring there bells and all the monks walked down the road with there tins to collect food given to them by the locals, it was just amazing just to be up and witness it (get in there Lion King Whisky). Soon after the sleepy monster that is Jack woke up and we got ready to make our way to Don Det with the other girls.
