After another very comfortable journey we arrived in Singapore, me being fab at geography was wondring why we didn't have to get on a boat, but if you look at the map properly Singapore is actually JOINED to SouthEast Asia, well you learn something new everyday hey! We had been recommended a guesthouse which is always a good thing, and woke Ali the owner up at 6am, got into our rooms and had a couple of hours before we were woken up by Prayer time over the road in a big tent, man that was repetative! Just like KL we could slip on our walking shoes (flip-flops) and walk around the city. Singapore is yet again really built up, very clean and organised, for such a large city there wasn't much traffic, not much pollution, and everyone seemed really nice and polite (well until I tell you about the camera story that is!). We pottered around and stumbled across a nice posh hotel which had 'Willy Wonker' style elevators going up the outside of the building, and us all being cheeky and probably still intoxicated with Whiskey and Valium, trooped in and pressed the button to the restaurant on the top floor, it was fab up there, panaramic views of the whole city, and what made it better was that it was free! We wondered around and wished we could stay for lunch but it was more expensive than the last 3 months in Asia, no really it just wasn't good enough for us and we didn't want to spoil our forthcoming meal in Little India!
We mooched around Chinatown, sampled some nice foods and then went on a mission to find a camera and some gadgets for Lydia and Fun Bobby, after 3 hours of mooching though it got a bit tiring (Lydia can shop for longer than Carol, Lauren and Marie B all put together). That night we ate in little India and retired setting our alarms for 6am to say our farewells (Lydia and Bobby were off to Oz).
The Camera Story: We really wanted a new camera, so after going to a million shops and stalls, doing our research on the net and getting a picture of the price we would pay. We went out with a camera in mind and were determind not to be pursuaded to buy another type (because everyone lies about things here) We shopped all afternoon, finally got a good price and were then told that we would have to wait maybe 30 minutes then it was another 30 minutes. Thing was that no one actually had the stock, they must order it all from a warehouse. At the point of realising this we went back to Chinatown where we met a guy who seemed to 'not want to mess around' it was so frustrating, we got a good price then were told that this price was yesterdays price and todays price was 300 Singapore Dollars more, so we went back to the nice guy in the very manly pink t-shirt who then decided that he would start messing around with figures and charging us for the warrenty that actually comes with the camera, arrrggg he then said a really naughty word (rhymes with Bar Steward) and Aaron dragged me out of the shop. So we never got a new camera, it was about 300 quid cheaper than back home aswell, but never mind, a guy told us how to use ours properly so thats our new mission, to learn how to use the really good camra we have! We then jumped a taxi and headed to the Airport for our flight to Bali, with a sour taste in our mouths!
Ahhh well back to the beach tomorrow, Lots of love x
