Hey everyone back home :-) We have now been in Goa for two weeks, and it has been a blast so far. I promised my new friend Fabiola, that i would write the blog in english so that she can follow us through asia. We left copenhagen the 12th Of january headed for Goa, India. In the airplane were we sitting next to a Russin woman who didn't speak any english. The woman got into a discussion with the people sitting behind us. It all ended up in some sort of a Wine thorwing, russian/french swearing fight, with Cecilia and me in the middel of all the fighting. We arrived in Goa around 03.30 and after a confusing taxi drive, we arrived at the hostel and got us selves four hours of sleep before we got picked up by Sunil (staff at the green lions organisation) and we drowe to the center where we have stayed the past two weeks.
The past two weeks have we been staying at the house i assanora with some other fantastic voulenteers form diffrerent countries.
Cecilia and I got two seperate jobs, but both in local kindergardens. It was some experience to see how the kids start lerning to write at the age of 3, and harsh to see them get hit by the teachers when they didn't do as told, or wrote a letter wrong, but that's culture i guess. and what a culture! we have seen such beautiful women with no money on the pocket walk around with such feminine elegance, decorated with colourfull sari and sparkling bangles and piercings.
to make it fast was the week in the kindergarden both exiting, and super boring. i became the punishment for the kids, so if they didn't behave, the were placed with me, and there weren't much action in the hours between 9.00 and 12.00 because the teachers were so strict. my thoughts while I was in the class was "please behave kids, so that you don't get the spank with the plank)
After a week in the kindergarden we went to stay at Palolem beach with some of the guys from the house, and OH MY GOD! this beach is what Lonely planet means with Goas BEAUTYFUL beaches. we stayed in a hut literaly on the beach, with a wiew so so so fantastic. that was beach of paradise. long and white with clear and blue/green water.
After a relaxing weekend was it time for an introducktion week. Monday was culture and religion class followed by a tour in the market in Mapusa. Tuesday did we go to see a churce and some museum time, wednsday was cooking and language class, followed by a trip to Anjuna beach and flee market, a big and beautiful market with a lot of colours and heat. we did some shopping and went for a short dip in the nice and cooling water. when the sun was about to set, did we find a restaurant were we could see the sun go down into the sparkling sea.
thursday was movie time, but first the girls had some shopping to do. Namita, the sweet sweet girl who also worked for the green lion organisation, showed us a sari shop. we stepped into a shop, again full of colours, and the girls jumped straight onto the firs pile of shining fabricks.
after the shopping did we go to a local restaurant where we got to taste Tali YUM!
we went to the movie theatre and saw a bollywood movie about a man and a woman and a flirt...... didn't get much of the hindi talk. :-)
Friday was the best day of all that week! we went to see a temple so exiting and karismatic. we were told what the temple meant to the people, and tasted the holy water. after seeing the temple we went to a waterfall and after that to a holy cave. we ended the week at the spice plantage where we got a tour though the spices and after that a delecious lunch made with the spices from the plantage. We bought spices and oils made on the place, and after that showerd with elephants.
Yes... we had the luxury of sitting on an elephant while it slpashed water on it self.
A great week, among really good friends was finished at the beaches in vagator over the weekend.
It was hard saying goodbye to everyone today when we left the house, but we are going to have a last dinner with all of them tomorrow evening to finish of as good as it started.
so here can you see how happy, great and busy we are here in goa, really catching the moment and emrasing life.
the next 3 small weeks will mostely be without internet connection and cellphone reception. because we on wednsday are flying to chennai where our 14 days treck begins.
i think that was all for now, and i will try to upload some photos here in the blog in a photoalbun.
all the love in the world from two white smiles in sun brown faces,
Cecilia And Mikkel
