Left Wellington early Sat. Uneventful flight, turbo prop, just like getting on a bus. Arrived to pick up motorhome at 8.30am as e-mailed to them but they were expecting us at 11.30 for some reason. Anyway, they lent us a car and we went off to shop. Drove south and arrived at Geraldine where we stayed for the first night. Good site. Spent much of the evening devising some sort of plan for the next 3 weeks. Thought we should have one. As we left Geraldine, low cloud changed to clear blue skies by the time we had reached Lake Tekapo, truly amazing, wait till you see the photos. From there we had good views of Mt Cook (see photo) and we drove to the bottom of the mountain. Drove away from there through Twizel to Oamaru where we stayed the night. On the way there we stopped to view some ancient Maori paintings. Ancient? They were about 120 years old! Underwhelming. On 25th it was a cool, cloudy start but with the promise of better. From Oamaru we stopped off to see the Moeraki boulders, and visited some fur seals near Shag Point before going to Palmerston, Waikouaiti and stopping the night outside Dunedin. When we arrived it was stinking hot so we took a bottle to the beach and watched the surfers for a couple of hours. Today started overcast but humid so we headed up the Otago Peninsula to see if we could see some yellow eyed penguins (they're rare you know) and maybe an albatross or two. Nope! Decided instead to take a scenic train ride through Taieri Gorge. That was a good decision. Spectacular. Arrived back here on the same site as last night. Typing this, waiting for food. Looks like a long wait!

Steve Lucas Kia Ora ! You're certainly not letting the grass grow and cracking on as they say. Still plenty to see believe me - the South Island really is God's own country - and good weather in the Southern Lakes/Alps is a real bonus for you. Take your time and enjoy every moment. Best wishes, Steve & Juels xx
