Mike & Benedict's World Adventures
Well we reached our final stop in Vietnam, as usual the trip started early. Reaching the delta we hopped onto a boat to see the sights. First we visited a local market on the way passing the shanty housing of the local people, which to me didn't look too sturdy on their posts half on the river, half on land. Don't think i'll be moving there. A minority village followed after passing the bridge of death - we somehow passed it in one piece.
All the villagers were muslim and the kids were playing the infamous sandal throwing games whilst occasionally stopping to ask us for pen's or gum. When a girl pulled out some gum to give them she was swamped with the little b*****s until she could prove that she didn't have anymore gum.
The market was a typical Vietnamese market, where ben enjoyed the delights of mango from a stall. The best part was getting off and on the boat using a wonderful plank to balance our way onto the boat. We then visited a coconut sweet factory (with free samples), where we also got a free shot of banana whisky (always good at 11 in the morning).
We had lunch on a farm which as did everywhere we visited there have a souveneir shop. Here we met 2 korean guys who introduced themselves as Justin and Damien i have my suspisions that may not be there real names. They loved football and they made me laugh most of the day.
The tour continued with a honey farm (and souveneir shop) where some people held a bunch of bees but i opted for the python (much more fun). The honey tea was brilliant (but i'm in desperate need of a proper brew, none of this lemon stuff they love over here). We then sailed down through some of the channels on a smaller motor boat follwed by a rowing boat.
That concluded our time at the delta and it was time for the journey to Cambodia. 4hours on a bus where i had ample leg room and a recling chair, ben had no leg room and a upright chair behind me. Once again the Viatnamese had done their favourite thing of not accounting for luggage as well as people. oh well i was comfortable.
We stayed overnight at the border town in Vietnam, where a cyclo driver took us to completely the wrong area from where we wanted to go to and without a map and not actually knowing the name of hotel we were supposed to be meeting our group for dinner, we gave up let him take us to a restaurant and finally back to the hotel we were staying at.
Our Cambodia adventures will be added shortly.
