Mike & Benedict's World Adventures
A Train journey later and we were now in Hoi An. We had fortunately all been able to get in the same room on the train as well as sharing with 2 local men (6 ppl in a room). The train journey was comfortable and once again there were some beautiful sights from the train especially of nice sunny beaches.
Arriving in Hoi An we head for a hotel recommended to us by our hostel in Hanoi. The hotel was the best we stayed at with it's own pool costing us $6 a night each including breakfast and internet access. The beach was the first thing we did, the beach in Hoi An is brilliant and there was plenty of sunshine (still trying to get rid of my milky bar kid look) as well as shade from the palm trees. The evenings entertainments took us to the most random "club" in the world which we got a free moped to as it's 3km away. When we arrived we doubled the amount of people that were there.
We decided to head to the bar to claim our free shot then and get a beer by the time we had finished our first beer the place was starting to get full. The "club" basically consisted of a run down room with a bar and writing from visitors all over the walls. The night turned out to be fun though, who could complain with the free entertainment of an irish guy pulling his shorts down then walking around the dancefloor then trying it on with every girl in the club, being turned down by every girl in the club. Brilliant.
I promised myself i wouldn't go there again but we bumped into some people we knew from Hanoi so we ended up going again on the second night where the evenings entertainment this time was break dancing vietnamese guys, i also ended up going the third night as well. All the bars shut at 10.30-11 in Hoi An.
During the days Hoi An is stunning, the area is very French in style hosting many cafes, bakeries and art shops. Ben and myself made time everyday to sit in a cafe in the shade and watch the world go by (our favourite being the cargo club).
Also whilst in Hoi An we both got clothes tailored made, me 6 items ($105 after bartering) inc. jeans, 2 shirts, linen trousers and 2 t-hirts ben 3 (they were ready 24hours after we had picked the stuff we wanted out of a next catalogue been measured for them), ben got the changing room (a portable shower curtain with a mirror essentially) but they only had one so i had to try them on in the middle of the store.
A trip to the champa ruins was also very entertaining especially the show before our little walk which involved dancing and the greatest horn player in the world. The best bit was at the end of the horn playing when he breaks the horn down in to smaller pieces so he's not using his hands then he breaks into a dance - pure genius). From this trip we got a boat ride back included which was brilliant for just chillin out. The rest of the time we spent on the beach.
