We found out the night before we left hopkins that there was only one boat that goes to Honduras from Belize and we had just missed it! So we had to change our plans, which led us back to Guatemala and a place called Rio Dulce.
We started the journey from Hopkins on a school bus at 7am with a song about Barack Obama, which was surprisingly catchy. It took a couple of boat journeys and about 8 hrs to get to Rio dulce but it was quite a nice. The second boat journey from livingston took us from the sea, along a river to the mouth of Lake Isabel. On the way we stopped off at a cave and had a quick look in and then we had a quick dip in some thermal pools, which were quite strange as there were a mix off hot water from the pools and cold from the river, weird but cool!
We stayed a couple of days in Rio, which is a really picturesque place but the city is not much to talk about. On the second day we took a boat to a reconstructed Fort, which has to be one of the coolest forts I have seen. Set on the ridge of the lake, it had a really cool spanish look to it and we had a tour around the grounds (although this was in spanish so we understood about 5 words of what he said).
After this we explored the rest of Rio and got an early night for our bus in the morning to Honduras!
