Missed yesterday but visited a few places in Kununurra. Hidden gorge and then Ivanhoe crossing. Hidden gorge is almost in town and is a small NP with a couple of nature walks, it is run by DEC. if I didn't have my pass it would have cost $10. I think people would be disappointed with the cost considering the experience is not that great.
Ivanhoe crossing is a special place that cars can cross the Ord river just out of town. The crossing itself was closed due to high water flow, but a lot of people were fishing for Barra, but nothing caught while we were there.
Today we decided to head for Broome with a stop at Geikie Gorge. We took a boat trip up the Fitzroy river through the Gorge. This was quite spectacular. We saw plenty of fresh water crocs and some fantastic scenery. Used the pass again and saved $ 56 for the two of us. This boat tour is run exclusively by DEC, who have a monopoly on this site.
At 4 o'clock we took off to Broome 420 Kms from Geikie. Got to Broome bleary eyed at 9 pm. We managed to get the caretaker up who ushered us to a sand pit on his bike. $45. This is nothing compared to our site in Kununurra.
