Went straight into Kakadu this morning and decided to stick to the main roads as we still had a long way to go and so far since day one have had no mechanical trouble. Most of the drive through Kakadu there wasn't much change to the landscape, a few rivers some breakaway country and plenty of burnt scrub. After a wholesome $25 breakfast at the Mantra Hotel we headed off to Kakadu. Firstly stopping at the recently refurbished war museum in Darwin. This was very impressive and informative. Darwin was bombed by the Japs In February 19 1942. This struck was bigger than Pearl Harbour. We are currently in Darwin,after travelling through Litchfield National Park. We had a swim in a few water holes, Blueys, Florence waterfalls and Wangi waterfalls. Began early again this morning after feeding a local pig some left over spuds. We headed north with about 600 km to reach Darwin. We stopped at small park on the way called Elslie near Mataranka. It had a natural spring in it that feed a river 365 days a year . The water was warm and clear as glass. There was a swimming area but far too many people for an extra dugong to visit.
