Mike and Nina's Australia and Fiji Trek
Alright, so we found a decent internet café in Suva. Since arriving in Fiji we spent 2 nights in Nadi, 1 in Mango Bay, and 4 in Suva. We took a Feejee Experience tour bus around the island of Viti Levu (the largest of the Fiji Islands). The bus is very flexible and allows us to hop on and off whenever we want to. As Mike mentioned in the message we've been having a ton of fun and have kept very busy. We visited a Fiji village, the Nadi market, sandboarded on the Sigatoka sand dunes, and had a BBQ on the beach. Then we hiked into the rainforest for 2 hours, tubed down the Navua river and went swimming in waterfalls. Then spent 3 days (and I mean FULL days - 12 hours per day) with relatives. I think Mike may have had his fill of Kava (a traditional Fiji drink served to guests and enjoyed by every red-blooded Fijiian - otherwise called hallucinogenic water by our British bus mates). You'll see pictures of all the Kava fun.
Hi all Mike here, right now we are in a holding pattern here in Suva. Our bus doesn't leave again until Wednesday. From then we will visit one more resort on the northeast part of the main island then we are hitting the yasawa Island resorts for a little RnR to end off the trip. As nina was saying the past three days have been very busy and completely out of our hands. We have been sent from one house to another meeting one relative after another and all of their relatives and their neighbours, etc etc. It has been really great though. We had a lot of fun with the kids, partially because we were able to communicate better with them and partly because they were so active and appreciative of the attention we gave them.
One thing that has to be a stand out in Fiji is that they are the craziest drivers I have ever seen. It doesn't matter if it a bike, hatchback, limo or a bus, everything fits everywhere. Our bus driver was off roading in a full size bus. We almost run people over hourly, rearend people minutely (if that's a word) and near head on collisions are not out of the norm!! I fear for my life everytime I am in anything run by petro!!
Back to Nina.
It's been great meeting Dad's family and also learning a ton about his background. Things that I have always been curious about and now finally get to learn about. We've eaten a lot of traditional Indian dishes. Yup, even Mike managed a little Mutton. He did enjoy the Roti a lot (traditional Fiji bread that looks like a flat pancake). We ate curry with our hands and used roti like a utensil. It was fun. Everyone was so welcoming. We would just show up at some strangers house and out would come the tea and breakfast crackers or cookies or Fiji treats. They didn't really know us but they were all willing to feed us. Anyway, we are going to hike some more Rain forest tomorrow and then it's off to Rakiraki. We'll add what we can, when we can. Talk to you all later!

P.S. I just wanted to take this opportunity to officially congratulate Mark Rowe on his recent engagement. Who would have ever thought it would happen!! There is hope for all of us yet!!!
P.P.S. To Team KARMA: Have you guys disbanded or are some of you still traveling together? We miss you guys. Australia was a lot of fun. Hope to hear from you soon. Enjoy your trips to Fiji. Email us if you have any questions. Oh and a heads up - watch out for the travel agents in the Nadi airport, they are all CRAZY! Tell them you already have a hotel booked or they will practically swarm you. We are not kidding!
Kristin - we hear your song everywhere, it chokes us up!
Rick - don't save your sun tanning for the east side of Fiji. It may not happen.
Alice - %$#^%$ @$#$%^ We miss your potty mouth!
Cormack - Hope work isn't getting you down!
