Mike and Nina's Australia and Fiji Trek
Hi all. We have officially left the Big Island in Fiji and are now calling the Malololailai Island Home. We are staying at a beautiful resort called Plantation. We have traded in our backpacks, dirty clothes, shower sandels, cramped dorm room hostels, and boxed wine (goon) for white fresh linens, clean clothes although still the same, a spacious beachfront Bura (Hut), fine dinning, and Bottled Wine. We have made it to paradise to end the trip. Its been a long trek and we felt we wanted to end it off right.
The end of FeeJee experience trip was awesome. We had great weather and a lot of fun activities. They included a school visit that was so nice. We all bought school supplies and candy and brought them to the kids. They were so cute. All the little girls looked at Nina like she was a princess (I on the other hand was no prince!! I think they just liked the canady I gave! From there we went to a village for a formal Cava cerimony. The boys drank while the women did crafts. Womens lib movement has not quite hit Fiji yet. That night we stayed in a cool place in the North (RaikiRaiki) Very nice hostel. One of the nicest we have stayed in!! We woke up that morning and Nina and I went for a 2 hour Kayak trip in the ocean. The water was amazing. From there we left and went to an indian restaurant in Latouka for a traditional meal. Then the fun started. We went to the hot pools and mud pool. It was unreal! The water was naturally warm / hot due to the earth underneath. One was so hot it had steam coming from it. Obviously they didn't allow us to get into that one. Also there was a big mud pool. We were covered head to toe with mud. Too much fun. The next day we came to the island.
The island is great. Windsurfing, kayaking, swimming and all the water activities you can think of. It even has a 9 hole golf course and yes Nina played her first round of real golf yesterday. She wasn't that bad!!! The course was a little dry but how cares I golfed in Fiji!! Today was operation suntan day. We hunkered down on the beach and read all day. We ended the day with an hour long hike around the island.
Tomorrow we plan to visit a neighbouring island when the tide is out. You can actually walk across to the next island. Anyway better run. Nina is back at the Bura waiting and this is costing a fortune to write. As you can see no new pics here but we have a lot. The computer I am on won't allow it so next time. Keep watching!! The sun and sand pics are coming next! Vijay and Edna...Anita says hello and that she is having a great time. She is lazy tonight and wanted to stay at the bura so i have writing duties. We will send more pics when we get a chance.
To everyone thanks for looking in on us. Its kind of fun to do this. I wish I could right more but I will have to mortgage my non existant house if I stay on any longer. See you all soon. Next Stop, Sydney Aus then Los Angeles.
Good night and Vinaka
